www.hardcoregaming101.net/sting/sting.htmI've been working on this for awhile, approximately two months or so. Sting is the company behind many cult RPGs, including Treasure Hunter G (published by Square for the Super Famicom), Evolution (localized by Ubisoft for the Dreamcast and Gamecube), Riviera and Yggdra Union (both localized by Atlus for the GBA.) They're an interesting company that makes lots of unique games. I'm really wrecked though, so the intro will have to wait until later. I want to do a quick wrap-up of some of their non-RPGs but there's nothing TOO spectacular (a decent-ish SFC action game called Melfland Stories, a Wizardry port to the Wonderswan, a few others.) Anyway, download the Baroque music. It's excellent.

Evolution is pretty fun for Dreamcast, even though it is pretty boring, but well worth the $4.99 that I payed. I need to get the GCN one since its about $10. It makes me happy that this game got in an article. Nicely done

There's a typo:
"Although Solid Runner is not listed on Sting's webpage, nor are they created at the beginning of the game"
It should say credited.

Treasure Hunter G is the only Sting game I've managed to finish. Riviera bored me and I probably won't get around to playing Yggdra Union.

PLAY YGGDRA UNION. Riviera honestly kinda bored me too.
Thanks for the typo fix BTW.

Very cool article... wasn't aware Sting did so many games.
Baroque looks very cool... where did you find it??? I'd love to give this game a try. I've got a thing for both random dungeon games and archaic hard to control first person dungeon games (Shadow Tower).

Bought the Playstation version from Japangamestock.com. It was released on the Saturn too though I haven't played it. Any of the differences I grabbed from the Japanese Wikipedia. I see the Saturn one pop up on eBay a lot.
I can provide an ISO, if anyone likes.

Wow, that would be cool. I checked japangamestock... didn't have it, so I requested it from them. Also made a request for it at genkivideogames. If either of those don't work out, and the offer of the ISO still stands, I would certainly appreciate it.

Great article! Thumbs up for calling out the faults of Riviera.

Great article and I agree with the faults of Riviera. To bad it's great graphics and ideas were mixed with such mediocrity. Thad didn't stop me burning trough it though. Next stop: Yggdra Union, or is it Treasure Hunter G?

Here's my typos contribution from Baroque. I haven't read about the rest of the games yet:
The storyline detailed all of the events that led up to the great heat (wve) destroying the world
By (taking combining) some of the post (apocalytpic) themes of Shin Megami Tensei with some of the visual and audio style of the Silent Hill games
although (it's) gameplay is definitely bound to put people off.
Another character found in the Nerve Tower, (S)he claims her name is Dr. Angelix,
The idea is to see how far you can get before you're killed or stumble upon (a) new plot points
(So) much of the gameplay involves getting up close to foes and hacking away
and there's (a) gallery to view all of the movies.
Although the graphics (are look) pretty cheap in the early screenshots,
Nice work!

When I was on my big Saturn RPG binge in jr. high, I remember buying Baroque and being confused as all hell by it. I bought the game for cheap at a used game shop in Japan. The game itself felt unplayable at the time.
I did find some kind of sound test, listened to all the music then felt like I got my $'s worth out of the purchase.
When I first saw Yggdra Union, the game looks a lot like Dragon Force. Now there's a series of games that needs an article...
