In case you don't know about it, here's a great Brandish site with maps for all the games. It's in Japanese though but the maps are EXTREMELY useful. www2.oninet.ne.jp/t_sera/index.html

Many thanks! I do love Japanese gamers' devotion to old Falcom titles - it's the only way I got anywhere in Dragon Slayer, Romancia and Dinosaur. I wish it had Brandish 4 though - it's the one I've played the most of and I'm stuck in two of the scenarios...
Mazin,
Brandish is an overhead dungeon crawler. The first installment was ported by Koei and released in America for the SNES. It's a bit weird, because instead of your character turning left and right, you're always facing upward and the background rotates around you. Very disorienting.

I ended up liking the friggin game. It's like that 7th Saga game where you go through so much and you curse the game so much that you end up liking it.
Video game Stockholm Syndrome? Could be.

Rey, you don't happen to have any save states or pictures from the first Brandish beyond the Ruins area? I'm getting about fed up with it.
On the other hand, Brandish 2 is much better. Excellent soundtrack on that too.

Well... no. All the saves where at the last boss already. Until I remembered the awesome warp magic the game has, with it I was able to warp to the start of each floor all the way down to the ruins area. So here are saves for each part of the game: the last level of the ruins, the foot of the tower, the tower top, caves, dark zone, fortress, last boss, good ending and the hidden soundtest. The ending has some pretty nice artwork so you might want to check that out. I enclosed a cheat file with an infinite magic cheat in case you want to use the warp magic yourself for something. www.vgmuseum.com/end/brandish.zip

Many thanks. Just how the hell did you have the patience to beat that last boss? I swear to God, the person who thought boss battles were a good idea in the Brandish games should be shot. They're better in the later games, but they're still clunky beyond all belief. As one might gather, they put some extra clothing on the chick with the big rack for the American release. She was barely wearing anything originally. But that's nothing compared to the crazy muscle chick from the third game. The first shot of her in the intro is merely a close up of her ass in a thong. Anyway, it's not done, but my current progress is here: hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/brandish/brandish.htmI still need to write up more and grab pics for Brandish 4. Plus I thought I had an ISO for the PCE version and...I don't. So I bought one off eBay for like $3. Should be another week until it gets here, but until then, I'm not putting this up officially. Need to add MP3s too. The SFC Brandish 2 is particular has some very nice music.

Yeah the last boss was a pain in the ass to beat. As for the MP3s there must be an SPC rip somewhere and asuming the PCE Brandish has redbook audio it shouldn't be hard to extract the tracks. But look, Galbadia hotel has Brandish 2 and 3 soundtracks gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/bGreat article so far! "Other annoying aspects include breakable weapons (something which should be banned from every single RPG ever" Haha, so true. That's why I've never liked the Saga series. *EDIT* Laughing Out Loud at the names of the characters in Brandish 4. Quien (QuiƩn) and Mermelada is Spanish for 'who' and 'jam' (as in straberry jam) in English. *EDIT2* Aren't you going to include that site will all the maps in your article links?

By the way, was Brandish really released for FM-7? According to Seldane at Ancient Land of Ys message board, Brandish was never released for FM-7, but for FM-Towns. A typo, perhaps? Also, there's IBM-PC versions of Brandish 1-3 released in Korea and Taiwan, according to this.

Yup, a typo. Should be FM TOWNS. Also added the bit about the IBM PC versions. Although, the page also says Broderbund brought Legacy of the Wizard to the PC rather than the NES...

Alright, my package with the PCE Brandish arrived in today, so I finished everything up. Four days shipping from Japan, cost = $6. Not bad.
