^ Funky option in Brandish to change speed at ANY TIME from slow, normal or fast. Fast for when you need to backtrack. Slow during the fights with the scorpions... normal for everything else. That's what I found to be most effective.

PSP remake! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=343604I guess a need a PSP someday. Oh, and since I can't think of anyone else who would care, I was looking at a machine translation of this Brandish page, and I freaked out when I realized it wasn't just a normal "capture" (aka walkthrough) site. There's actually quite a bunch of stuff there on how to exploit the engines of the first two PC-98 games - like how to complete the first game in 32 steps (abuse of warp magic), or how to make the time counter read 0:00:00 at the end of both games. Also some stuff on using the hammer to break walls you shouldn't be able to break or glitch the Rakshashas into looking like Alexis. I doubt any of those are still in Koei's ports, but I might check for them some time...

At first look, I thought that was a sequel. But still, awesome.
I would rather have a remake of the second one though, if only for the music...

That NeoGAF thread is amusing...the later Brandish games (2 and 3 anyway) are better than the SNES version of the first game would have you believe, but I wouldn't exactly go WOOO FUCK YEAH YOU GUYS DONT KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MISSING over a new Brandish, of all things. Still, it's good to see Falcom has found a niche with the PSP, and should lead to some good music, I hope.
Reminds me, I gotta try Vantage Master for it...

Wow, I didn't see this one coming. Pleasant surprise. Too bad I don't have a PSP though, and have no plans to get one. Still, it's nice to see a under-the-radar game/series like Brandish be revived for today's crowd. Perhaps it will lead to some souls exploring the earlier efforts.
Said it before and I'll say it again: I had an absolute blast playing SNES Brandish. Highly atmospheric and addicting once you get past the Ruins. Music's pretty damn good too.

Disco: Vantage Master Portable is EXCELLENT. I swear, with every new PSP game Falcom releases, they get better and better at programming for the system, to the point where the last two Sora no Kiseki games and Vantage Master Portable are about as flawless as you can get. You'd never know any of them were ports of PC titles - they all feel right at home on the PSP. I also really liked what Falcom did with VMP's soundtrack - you can actually switch between the original Vantage Master music, and the newly arranged soundtrack, on the fly, which is very cool. I imagine Zwei!! for PSP will probably offer a similar feature, since it's also got a newly-arranged/re-recorded soundtrack, but I won't know that for a week and a half yet! Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Falcom released similar remakes of Brandish 2, 3, and 4 on the PSP in the coming years, as they really seem to have taken a liking to the thing. Zwei 2 is also virtually inevitable, I think. I'm just waiting for Falcom to release a BRAND NEW game on the PSP. I doubt it'll happen anytime soon... but assuming their PSP software sales continue at the rate they've been going, it WILL eventually happen, I bet. (: -Tom

First, more for curiousity, I see that a guy on Youtube uploaded some unused music from Brandish 2: Disk swap (used but not on OST) Unused 1 (sounds like a boss theme) Unused 2 (seems to be an opening or ending theme) Unused 3 (wow, this doesn't sound like any Falcom PC-98 stuff I've heard before[/url] Listen to all of them in high quality. I can't run HOOT right now so I can't confirm that those songs are actually present in the Brandish 2 music sets, but I can confirm that the music data from the Renewal re-release is missing four files, including the three filenames listed on Youtube. All of them sound pretty great, and I have to wonder why they weren't used. Maybe they're from other Falcom games? (oh, and don't watch the guy's Let's Play, it's no good) also, I grabbed the Mantra-created Korean MS-DOS version of Brandish 2 from that site mentioned in the Puyo Puyo additions topic, and sure enough the 250mb is due to all the music being stored in RAW audio format. I've successfully converted some songs with a DOS application I found called rawtowav with the settings of -f22050 -r16 -cstereo. The strange thing is, the first three songs (the two opening themes and the Prison BGM) are all arranged. It's not as good as some of the Turbo CD stuff Falcom put out (though miles ahead of Brandish TCD), and not as enjoyable as the Adlib joy of Ys II Special, but it's pretty decent. I still prefer the PC-98 and SNES versions, but these are interesting to hear. The thing is, none of the other tracks are arranged. They're all the PC-98 music - sounding like they came straight from the OST, just awkwardly edited to loop. It's weird. Why bother to only arrange the music of the first hour or two of the game? I'm tempted to say this is somehow the result of pirating it, but that's really too bizarre a scenario. Okay, strike that. The last boss theme is arranged, and....yurk. This is MIDI rock at it's sloppiest. The PC-98 version is definitely better. I wonder if...nah, these tracks probably aren't from the Brandish MIDI Collection (although I don't have it on hand to check). And that doesn't have arrangements of the opening songs. Epilogue and Mystic Dora aren't arranged, but Soldier's Sorrow is. It's pretty crummy too, although not as bad as the last boss arrange. So, 5/39 songs arranged, and most of those poorly. Oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll do a PSP remake. Also it just now occurs to me that the Ice/Green Zone theme wouldn't be out of place in a Castlevania game. Shame it was cut from the SNES version, although I'm glad I didn't have to go through those extra areas. I also realized the SPC set I made for Brandish 2 is also missing A Journey Without Rest. I wonder if it's not in the game, or if I missed it... right, anyways, I'm a bit tired tonight but tomorrow I'll see about converting these arrangements to mp3 and take some screenshots of the game itself.

So...what's new in the article? The update text mentions only remakes and sequels as new additions to a couple of articles, but as far as I can see there have been no games added to the Brandish article. Is it just some music or what could it be?

The PSP remake of the first Brandish game was mentioned in the article and also has a few screenshots from it.

Looks good. I noticed a small typo in the Brandish 2 section right near the start of it: "As it turns out, this is the very sword Ares obtained at the original Brandish." I'm assuming that's meant to read "obtained at the end of the original Brandish."
