I've actually never heard anyone call a cigarette a friend before despite the rumour. That's because no one uses it in that manner anymore. They did decades ago, though.

Further Derailment: I know no French D: And have been in class for it my whole life! Immersion? That shit can totally destroy a person's French skills. I know there's a rudimentary version of the language lodged in the back of my mind somewhere, but I'm too self-consious to actually use it in conversation with francophones.
