I hear you, there is so much content from deleted/rebuilt web sites that I wish I had archived over the years. There is only one web site (besides my own) that I've actually made a concerted effort to archive, and even then I still haven't finished the job. Considering it's a corporate web site for a Nintendo 64 game, I really should count my lucky stars that it's still up 10 years later. There are some others that I'm really taking for granted too. Hopefully this topic will inspire me to get off my lazy butt and preserve the content I really love.

Late Pass:
Wow I can't believe this is happening, this is absolutely terrible. So many classic sites (that haven't been updated in a while) may be lost.

Wow, I can't believe I completely missed this one, I feel dumb. Crap, this really sucks, is that Castlevania site under Classicgaming.com too?

Erm. Would someone be so kind, as to explain to me why trying to run soronline.classicgaming.gamespy.com/ through WinHTTrack only gives me this crap? Note: Could be robots.txt holding me up, but when I filtered that filename out I still got no results.

I figured I would let you guys know, GameSpy has been proceedurally terminating websites every day, well before the August 31st deadline. Each day they are closing down about 4 websites at a time. I woke up today to find the Advance Wars site gone.
So far I have archived over 150 websites, but I can only save them so fast. It is a battle against gamespy to archive them all. Between gamespy suspending accounts and some site admins shutting their sites down prematurely, it has become a race against time.
For those of you who wanted to save something inparticular, don't get lazy and wait. It will be gone before you know it.

Well Nikon, can you get SoR Online? I've got all the hosting I need set up for an archival but i'm not too confident I can beat HTTrack into submission in time.

Phew. For a few minutes I thought the whole thing was being torn down as I was trying to get it. You can now find SoR Online at www.jonnys-place.com/soronline/. I am 90% certain I picked up everything, so if you can, plz dig through and try to find any broken links or images (the counter on the front is broken on the real thing already). Edit: .htm issue dealt with, all links (should) work Just wondering, have these guys been made aware what's going on?

Double posting to remind that someone needs to grab F-Mode like, yesterday. If i'm not mistaken this is one of the few F-Zero fansites still somewhat intact (to say nothing of how many have been left in the ditch).

I used to be in regular contact with the guy who ran F-Mode, but he vanished a couple of years ago and hasn't updated for quite some time. Hope someone saves it. NinDB is going to move to Kontek. It would have done already, but I've spent much of the last few months completely rebuilding the thing, and I kinda want to get it finished. And it nearly is! Glad to hear HG101 is going to be saved as well! It's my favourite IGN/Gamespy hosted site

Anyone contacting the admin of The World of Battletoads regarding this? He stated that, aside from the classicgaming servers thing, he had no longer the time or motivation to update the site, but the website could at least be preserved in a new server for future references. It's not as complete or detailed than many others, but fans of the series appretiate it since there's nothing else (MundoRare doesn't care about Battletoads, they are more into the modern Rare). Death Adder's Castle is regularly updated, and they even added new crew to it some months ago. I think they are or will be aware of the situation before the deadline and make their move. It's not like it's an abandoned site. The Ninja Gaiden Homepage, on the other hand, hasn't been updated since 2004. Should be backed up and preserved also, if for the references for the retro games of the series (and the first modern Ninja Gaiden) because they are quite decent and there isn't really anything else (a strange thing with the current trend of the series). Glad to see sites like Double Dragon Dojo, Contra HQ and Castlevania Dungeon (and The West Mansion, I guess) shifting towards the new servers. And of course, Hardcore Gaming 101.

Should I read your post with the old voice, or British accented one?
Good help though, to be honest. I'm not even gonna look at this stuff because if it goes I'll be sad. *ignores ignores*

I'd like to back some of these up, and I can do a direct "save webpage as" but it doesn't work after I change it to text lol. Damn me forgetting my html.

Again, it can be kind of a pain to make work, but saving pages through Firefox or something such and then trying to make sense of all the parts and pieces if you want to do something with it later is a helluva lot more pain.
