Axelay is a lot of fun, but I could never get into Xexex.

I guess it wasn't made by Konami, but should there be a mention of the Gyruss remake hidden in Contra Legacy of War? Actually forgot about that. Wasn't there some other minigame in there too? It's been a long time since I played Legacy of War.

Yeah, something called Pac-Tank, IIRC.

XEXEX is indeed an amazing game but Axelay was a mess. Such a waste of 800 points.

I played Axelay for the first time in 2007 and loved every single minute of it. If only it wasn't so easy.

There's one thing I've been curious about for a while now that the article reminded me of. The article mentions the similarities between Thunder Cross and the Gradius series. Wikipedia states that they actually are supposed to take place in the same fictional universe. Does anyone actually know if this is based on anything official? Or is it just typical Wikipedia bullshitery? I mean, its easy to see it being true, since the enemies and bosses in Thunder Cross ARE very reminiscent of Gradius. But it could easily just be coincidence/laziness on Konami's part.

I checked the J-Wiki article and it seems to agree that it's part of the same universe.
Actually found some other interesting bits. One of the songs from Thunder Cross II is called Dog Fight III. This is apparently a "sequel" to songs that the composer, Metal Yuuki, worked on previously when he was employed by Tecmo: Super Star Force and Strato Fighter. The same dude also scored the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden and later worked on Dracula X PC Engine.
There's some stuff I need to update - apparently I missed a whole bunch of shape config stuff for Crisis Force.

Just updated this, including:
-Added a game I missed called The End -Added a lot of stuff to Thunder Cross I & II, Trigon, and Crisis Force. There were systems I didn't pick up on in these, as well as regional differences. Apparently I never bothered to press the A button in Crisis Force without letting go of the fire button, which actually changes configuration of your ship. Also, Trigon has some cool weapons that can only be used in two player mode. -Also stuck in a bit of the Gyruss mini-game found in Contra: Legacy of War.

Oh Kurt! I totally forgot about this, but there is a Gradius minigame in Blades of Steel for the NES. You get it at half time if I remember correctly. It's barely worth mentioning, but if the Gradius minigames on the Goemon games count, then this should count too. Here are screens if you don't want to go through it yourself: www.vgmuseum.com/images/nes/01/bsteel.html

Am I the only person in the world who finds Axelay hard? I've only been able to beat the first level once.

Am I the only person in the world who finds Axelay hard? I've only been able to beat the first level once. I have a lot of trouble with the 'overhead' stages, actually. My aging brain is not up to the task of figuring out the trajectories of incoming bullets at that angle. - HC

The horizontal stages aren't especially hard, but for some reason, I've always had trouble with the overhead portions of the game.
