This was actually all done like a week ago, but I've been waiting for my copy of the Art of Fighting anime DVD to come in. Well, it hasn't, so that section is still empty. hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/artoffighting/artoffighting.htmThe Art of Fighting Anthology was released in America a month or two ago for like $15. Definitely worth grabbing if only for Art of Fighting 3.

It's worth noting that "I Dream of Jeannie" is misspelled twice in Sinclair's profile.

If the anime is going to be a lot like other fighting game to anime adaptations (Tekken, SF2, etc.), let me praise you for your sacrifice in furtherance of your craft.

Awesome. Nice to see this posted here.
I never mentioned this earlier, but I noticed that you removed the comment about Dan Hibiki having a last name as a obious reference to the fact that SNK almost always gives their characters last names, where the SF character never have full names.

Yeah because it's not entirely correct. SNK characters almost always have last names, and while it's rare in Street Fighter cases, they do exist, such as Ken Masters, Cammy White, Fei Long, Sakura Kasugano, Karin Kanzuki and Sean Matsuda. At least three of these came before Dan Hibiki, so it can't really be certain if Capcom was trying to mock SNK in that sense.

I've never understand the hate this series receives. My jaw dropped the first time I played the original and again when I played the third one. It's sad that there weren't more entries to flesh the series out.

I've always been kinda curious about Art of Fighting, but as I've heard a few bad things about it, I never bothered to try it.
The article has me kinda interested, though it looks like I'll have to wait til october if I decide to try the games, well without resorting to emu anyway.

Not much point to seriously play this game, I think, since almost nobody else does so competitively. And the controls never reached a passable, fluid level, even when AOF3's graphics were so well drawn. Maybe that clunkiness was always deliberate but it feels like a throwback from the bygone early gen of fighters.
Great article though.

Well yes, the controls' response was never really quick until the third game. They never really implemented a combo system until this entry and the overall feel of it resulted in something close to Samurai Showdown 1 & 2, where the game's main attraction is audio/visual and the actual fight is a conglomerate of timed pokes and special moves.

^^^ Well the A.I. sucks. The game is hard, but off-the-wall kicks and timing projectiles attacks to hit the enemy right when they get up is the main tactic for the first game, and will often make your enemy dizzy for a grab or special.
On AOF 2, dash towards the enemy and grab him (few times you'll get hit), then shoot a projectile timed to hit right when he stands up: instant dizzy. Repeat for infinite dizzies. This works against almost all enemies and reminds me of the first Mortal Kombat's stupid A.I. Playing this title without these tactics makes the game almost impossible to finish and will result in many game overs even on Level 1 difficulty, which is the main reason why is one of the most forgotten SNK series. The fun is just not there.

Well, the Art of Fighting anime DVD came in a few days ago, so I've filled that blank. As for the quality, all I have to say it this:
