www.hardcoregaming101.net/bass/bass.htmI remembering buying this when I was younger because of a rave review in PC Gamer. I liked it then, but I really dig it even more now, especially after playing Broken Sword, Revolution's later game. Even so, I always loved the voice acting. I'm thinking of recording some of the lines from Hobbins and (especially) Lamb, because some of the stuff they stay is just brilliant. ("WELL I don't give a DAMN about BEAVERS.")

I love games like this, because there's so many silly reponses you can get for doing unexpected things - like having Joey analyze the sandwich you steal from Hobbins' cabinet in the factory. (Pig lungs?!)

This picture is used twice in the article. Also, there are random question marks scattered throughout the article. Freeware? I'll have to look into this asap

Yes indeed, a nifty little game. Bit of a whacking huge spoiler with the "melding minds" line, no? And let's not forget the brazen nudity in cyberspace! There was some hopeful discussion on the SCUMMVM boards a while back about remastering the voices from the original DAT tapes, but alas, they could only find an early version. Might as well look at some other corrections: that trauma weren't enough that trauma wasn't enough

Thanks for those. I wrote this all in Word and had problems importing the text, which changes the dashes to question marks. I fixed them all before uploading, though, and it looks fine to me now, so it might just be encoding.

I've only played a little ways into this game, but will agree the voice acting is excellent.
My copy actually came with a cheap CD with Broken Sword 1-3, and BaSS was included as a free extra.
Though I believe it's available as freeware via the SCUMMvm website.

Though I believe it's available as freeware via the SCUMMvm website. It is, along with Lure of the Temptress [and Flight of the Amazon Queen] and comes with only the files that ScummVM requires for the game to run. So the full game with music and speech is only around a 60MB download.

Question about the game that the article didn't mention: Can you die in this game, and is it very common?

Yes, you can, but it's not very often. There's a spot right at the beginning, and a handful of spots throughout, mostly concentrated at the end. But it's not as death-heavy as a Sierra game.

BTW, they just released a version for the iPhone/iPod Touch; anyone play it yet? I'd have picked it up but they have a stupid d/l limitation when you're not attached to iTunes or a wifi network, so I haven't gotten around to it.
