Platformer Update (2)
개미맨 (Antman) 1 & 2
A pair of run 'n guns. The first one plays rather choppy, jumping is very dissatisfactory. You have the choice between three characters in mechanical suits, each with its own extra weapons. You can also only fire to the left and right.
Part 2 is very much inspired by Gunstar Heroes, from the character designs and animations, up to the weapons and moves (flame thrower, dash, throw). It doesn't have the weapon combination system, though. It also owes to Metal Slug, for some enemy types and the rescuing of hostages. This time there's only two characters, who only differ in their looks and a special melee attack. However, it's much better programmed than the first game. Sadly, the only version I could find has been stripped of the BGM.
요정 전사 뒤죽 Fairy Knight Dwijook (I think the last part is a name)
This one seems similar to some Wonder Boy or Dragon Slayer games. It's quite hard, so I didn't get further than 5 or 6 screens so far.
돌아온 영웅 홍길동 (Return of the Hero Hong Gildong)
This one is based on an animated movie based on the same story as the RPG Hong Gildong. It reminds me of some of the 16 bit Disney games like Alladin for some reason. It's fun, with nice level design. Only the collision detection can be a bit aggravating, as it's very hard to attack enemies without getting hit yourself.
돌아온 너구리 (Return of the Racoon)
The sequel to a very old homebrew CGA game (the first game is hardly playable even in dosbox). It's quite simple. Collect all the items on screen, avoid traps and enemies. You can only move and jump, there's no attacks.
레온의 모험 (Leon's Adventure)
I guess someone liked 8-bit Sonic the Hedgehog. Look at the springs and rings. Gameplay isn't too similar, though (but level design kinda is). Instead of losing rings you have an energy bar, though, and there's only two running speeds (and you can hardly use the fast one, as it starts automatically after a certain distance).
티피의 모험 (Tipi's Adventure)
This is nice. It kinda follows the Doom/Duke3D formula for level design (find the 3 keycards to unlock doors on the way to the exit). You can attack with the sword, or collect diamonds for fireball attacks (those are rather slow, though, and you often get hit before they are executed). A few platforms are smaller than their bitmaps in game logic, which can be a bit annoying. Also there's a lot of hidden passages you have to find through trial&error.
Pocket 보글보글 (Pocket Bubble)
The Korean Title actually reads more like 'Bogle Bogle', which is an onomatopoethicum (no clue if that's the right spelling) for the bubbles rising in cooking water. Bubble Bobble was extremely popular when it came out in arcades. Many arcades still have Bubble Bobble or Bubble Bobble Symphonies running. Some also have Bogle Bogle, a bootleg of the original game, and it is known by that name almost better than Bubble Bobble. This game is one of the many clones and rip-offs. You can chose between four Gauntlet-esque characters, each with their individual attack. There's a knight with a sword, an elf with Hadoukens, a girl with a bow, and a wizard with somewhat heat-seeking fireballs. The controls are not very good, and while you have to collect a certain number of hieroglyph-ish items per round, at some point (level 12 or so) the enemies stopped spawning those, so I couldn't get on.
신화의 제왕 - 제우스 vs 크로노스 (Emperor of Myths - Zeus vs Kronos)
Zeus vs Kronos is actually the second part in a series (the first one dubbed Heracles), but the first is said to be rather monotonous, so I didn't bother to get it. This one is awesome, though. I do suspect it's rather short (haven't finished it yet). It's a cross between a platformer and a single-plane beat 'em up, pretty combo-heavy. Between the levels Hera forces you to a silly trivia quiz about Greek myths, only if Zeus answers enough of them right, she'll marry him (at least that's what she claims). As you probably guessed by now, this is intended as a kid's game, and thus a bit on the easy side.
