www.hardcoregaming101.net/roguegalaxy/roguegalaxy.htmThis is Level 5's action-RPG from a few years ago, essentially a Star Wars JRPG (much more so than FFXII, even.) I bought it when it got cheap and barely played it, but I grabbed a save from late in the game to grab some screenshots, and some of the environments are pretty nice, at least.

I really enjoyed the hell out of Rogue Galaxy, but I wish that the combat was a bit deeper. They did a good job of hiding the load times for the fights, but they didn't have nearly the same level of depth or satisfaction of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.
The dungeon designs didn't really bother me too much until about 2/3rds of the way into the game. Midway they take a positive turn upward in quality before nosediving again, which was a bit disappointing. I get why they went with the design decisions that they did, but I really think they could have done a better job with 'em.
I never even bothered looking into the insect combat/collection stuff. Not my cup of tea.

The only problem I had with rogue galaxy is it seems like every time you'd visit a new area the monsters in that place would be ten levels higher then you and absolutely rape your party

I never really had a problem with the leveling, but I did spend a lot of time in combat, working my way up the hunter rankings. It never really felt like grinding to me (which is always a good sign) and I consequently never really felt underleveled.
Oh, and you know what part I really did not enjoy? The final fight. It was neat that they went for that epic, everyone in the party plays a part thing...but it took like 45 minutes to do and I wound up dying at the super very last bit of it because I wasn't totally sure what I was supposed to be doing. That hurt the morale. Second runthrough "only" took about 15-20minutes, but man, I probably would have ragequit if I didn't make it through that time.
Man, those Gladius Towers were pretty fun to go through.

I heard that about halfway through the game, the plot suddenly took a nose-dive. Like, it became so much less interesting that people actually began to theorize that the second half of the game was written by someone else altogether.
Can anyone confirm this?

oh god don't get me started on the plot of rogue galaxy.... (put in black in case someone doesn't want to get it spoiled) - turns out that jaster is some sort of super warrior who literaly goes super saiyan - of course kisala is a princess of a lost planet - jaster let the bad guy escape for no reason at all,bad guy then proceed to kill the hero father for a random dramatic scene - desert claw who helps you at the beginning of the game while being all mysterious and cool is actualy your real father - you then go kick your mother ass for reason i can't clearly remember - to stop the bad guy from awakening some ancient evil your party member have to get power from their hearts which basicaly amounts to watching cutscenes involving some very forced dramatic scenes about their personal issues,it might work for some of the serious character but when they have to invent something on the spot for character that amount to little more than comic relief like jupis or simon,it feels horrible rammed in

The article shows a cover of the Japanese Director's Cut but it doesn't bother telling what that actually is. Is it just the normal Japanese version plus the added US content?

Thanks. Would be nice if the article'd mention it, too.
