I swear, every time I'd ever heard someone mention this game's name I always confuse it with Monster Bash. The game sounds pretty whacked out and neat...I'm going to have to check it out sometime.

I keep reading about this game, but I think this is the first time I've seen images of Bert lol

Excellent article on one of the quirkiest damn titles in the history of forever. I expect nothing less, good sir. Aside note: I THOUGHT that was the joke with Royce also. Good to see some confirmation for such an outlandish pun. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to let out an audible groan from the top of the Empire State Building through a didgeridoo. Another aside: I really wonder what the ESRB would have rated this game if they existed at this time? I mean, it technically seems kid-minded aside from the bits of grotesque nightmare fuel. I bet the Chameleon Man would have induced nightmares for any kid still in elementary school.

It bears repeating: This is the best article of the year by far. Rob is the greatest author on HG101. Period.

Thanks for posting this, Kurt. I was working on getting some screenshots, but I've been having issues with NES emulators on my PC. A couple things about the article: I seem to have misspelled "pumpkins" in my commentary on the Pumpkin Ghost. Also, the wiki link to the Bancho Sarayashiki ghost story is redirecting to some nonexistent page on Wikipedia called "BANCH". Here's the correct link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bancho_SarayashikiRegarding the "Giant Spider Corpse" boss: upon closer inspection, I believe Bogleech is right, as it does appear to be some kind of a reptile (maybe a dinosaur?) lying on its side. So I'd like to remove the "Spider" part from the boss description. That "fat cactus", as it turns out, is actually a haniwa: some kind of totem I saw described as a "Japanese garden gnome." Here's an interesting video I found recently showing more prototype screenshots, along with commentary. You may want to add a link to this too: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DWSqAVIdTYThanks for the comments, everyone. Mike, you know that with the frequency I write HG101 articles (this is what, my second in three years?) that it'd have to be good. LOL And zzz... I appreciate the kudos, but surely there have to be others out there that write better articles than me.

I know the Night Trap article seems to be the focus of everyone's attention right now, but don't forget to fix these errors when you have a chance.

Great read. This game scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, but I always did love it.

It's sharing time! Monster Party marks the crucial moment when I realized the usefulness of English. I was whacking away at the dancing dudes with my baseball bat, but my 8 year old brain couldn't get why hitting them didn't work... it had solved all my problems so far, didn't it? So I asked my mommy to tell what was going on. Once she told me, I realized there was this whole other language out there and that to become an effective gamer I had to learn English. Game or not, it's a pretty essential skill. Who said video games don't teach you anything? Aaah memories. Good article.

Hey dire, I don't know if you've played the homemade game Eversion, but there's something about the cactus bit that really reminded me of that game. I won't say any more, but maybe you should give it a try. zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html
