This is another one of those late-night posts, so this is still pretty rough. Anyway: www.hardcoregaming101.net/suikoenbu/suikoenbu.htmThis is a 2D fighter from Data East that's basically the successor to Fighters History. Except instead of ripping of Street Fighter II, it takes its characters from The Water Margin story from Chinese folk lore, the same one that Konami's Suikoden series is based off. It's not an amazing fighter, but it's not too shabby either.

"he was actually popular enough to star in his own Super Famicom beat-em-up"
What game is that referring to?

That sentence is a pack of lies plagiarized off Wikipedia if you consider "beat'em up" to mean "walking to the right while isometrically punching people."
However it can be true depending on the origin of the writer of said entry, a "beat'em up" is the term for a one on one fighter in many parts of Europe.
It refers to the game Fighter's History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!! which is simply a Super Famicom port of a very altered Fighter's History Dynamite/Karnov's Revenge (Karnov, Yungmie and Clown's sprites are freely selectable) that's missing many combatants in exchange for a story mode focused on Mizoguchi.

I love how half of the screenshots feature crotch-shots of the brothers.

Wow. I'm surprised at how much the box art for jp version of the first Suiko Enbu / Dark Legend reeks. It's even more surprising how the US one has better box art. Glad that fixed that with the second one. It sounds disappointing how no version of Suiko Enbu/Dark Legend uses the 4 meg, though. I got Vampire Savior recently and that 4m RAM expansion is good stuff. It also let me know that the Action Replay 4m Plus Auto I got from PA works great.

I like the Jap version about fourty-thousand times more than the US art. The US art is just, "BUURRR BIG MUSCLES AND SWORDS," whereas the Jap cover actually looks like it could be art depicting a part of the Water Margin story.

The US art is just, "BUURRR BIG MUSCLES AND SWORDS," whereas the Jap cover actually looks like it could be art depicting a part of the Water Margin story. It may be based on an art work, but it looks bland to me and doesn't do a good job of depicting characters from the game. I almost thought it was fake when I first saw it. "BUURRRR BIG MUSCLES AND SWORDS" is not at all why I like the US art. I also commented on how I like the Fuunsaiki art much better than the first JP art, though I just referred to the game as "the second one". I like that art better than both the US Dark Legend art and the JP Suikoenbu art.

I enjoyed Dark Legend for what it was. One of the last Saturn games I bought from a real life store. I remember it well... December 2001... Funcoland. Fuunsaiki is pretty good, with some crazy chain possibilities. Those screenshots are awesome, I forget what rich colors the characters had... very distinct in its style.
