You should mention that the game is playable in ScummVM now. For some very strange reason it's also still for sale for $32 at the Harlan Ellison store, but I suppose it's a good thing that it's still for sale at all. (As I mentioned previously, no one can publish Callahan's Crosstime Saloon anymore even if they wanted to, since the relevant contracts have all expired.) Ohh, thanks for bringing up Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. I think it was either you or one other poster here that put that sucker on my radar. After reading a preview of it in PC Gamer and checking out some info about it online, I'm seriously kicking around the idea of picking up a copy. When you buy IHNMAIMS from the HERC store, does it come in the full retail box or is it just a jewel case release? Sucks they finagled the pricing structure the way they did, but I guess them's the breaks. If nothing else, at least it's still readily available for purchase if anyone wanted to support 'im. Shame the guy is such a fucking tool... if he was in a field that I didn't care about, I'd probably actually have fun watching his antics unfold.

That's cheaper than secondhand copies on Amazon. I didn't buy it there, though, so I don't know what it comes with.
Thanks for some of the feedback, I've fixed some small things. I really hope Ellison or whomever doesn't get pissed since some of the dialogue is quoted verbatim. Only the intro and ending bits are actually from the story...the rest is from the game, which he may or may not have directly written.
I wonder though - I also heard the story of him demanding profits from Cyberdreams, and them responding that, basically, there were no profits. That sounds totally plausible, but I want more sources for that before sticking it in.

Any idea of the time frame for the drama? I could dig through some old CGW and PC Gamer issues looking for any mention.

Ohh, thanks for bringing up Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. I think it was either you or one other poster here that put that sucker on my radar. It was featured prominently in HG101 vs the Pirates. No idea. Good question. It would be very silly if for $32 they just sent a CD-R, but I wouldn't be too surprised. How many copies of that could they possibly have kicking around after all these years? Ellison is well-known for being a very angry man, shall we say. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlan_ellison#Temperament(Good $deity, after 40 years he's filing another suit about "City on the Edge of Forever" !?)

(Good $deity, after 40 years he's filing another suit about "City on the Edge of Forever" !?) God, that's awesome somehow. It just is. In all seriousness, the man is on metaphorical crack. A goddamn genius, but a goddamn lunatic. And because Kurt instilled me with the notion that he might somehow browse this board, I don't want to get slapped with a lawsuit for defamation of character.I mean... seriously. WOW.

Hmm, I'll dig through what I have and see if I can turn up anything. Mobygames trivia is about as reputable as wikipedia entries without citations or references. A buddy is filling in my PC Gamer collection from 95-01 and throwing in a bunch of CGWs from the era in there as well, so I should have a more fleshed out collection to pour through soon. Anything related to IHNMAIMS is totally getting scanned in. It was featured prominently in HG101 vs the Pirates. [/quote] Ahhh, that's it. Yea, the game looks and sounds pretty neat, despite its drawbacks. Really makes me wish I'd paid more attention to Legend back in the day (you know, aside from the Spellcasting x01 series) instead of being such a rabid Lucasarts and Sierra fanboy (especially since the Sierra stuff is mostly shit in hindsight).

Skimmed this thread... I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but your smaller screens when clicked on, aren't linking to their higher res brethren. It just goes to a page showing only the low res screen.
I had to go through the root folder to find the higher res images. Speaking of which, I love the fact Hg101 doesn't bar readers from directly accessing the root folder of articles. Is that intentional?

Oops, mucked up some file extensions. Fixed it now.
The directory browsing is purely server side stuff which I don't control, but I'm glad is there. If you peek around you can find a lot of unused screenshots for a lot of stuff.

Hi Kurt Kalata, please remove that link to Harlan Ellison's short story. The author is still alive, he still sells that story, and he has fought lawsuits against AOL in the past for not policing their message boards for pirating his work.

SERIOUS BUSINESS Unless you're Mr. Ellison, I doubt this is going to work. Sorry kid.

You'd have better luck convincing whoever is hosting the story in question.

Furthermore, there's a functional link to a copy of the story at the bottom of the Wikipedia article. What fun!

Yeah, if I were hosting it that's one thing, which I'm not. Anyway, it's only it the forums. I got the link from TV Tropes.
