www.hardcoregaming101.net/gex/gex.htmI'm not really sure what to say about this one. I remember playing the 3DO version at Nobody Beats the Wiz when I was a kid, and my brother had the PSOne version of the second game, which I played a bit, but I was never a bit fan of 3D platformers.) Always seemed acceptable but not particularly great. The color and tile layout of the some of the levels in the first Gex give me a headache, though.

I have a soft spot for Gex given that I owned the first 3d version on the Playstation. They could be frustrating but there aren't a lot of parody games so I think it's acceptable.
A little bit of pointless trivia - a demo of Gex (the 2d version) along with a demo of Microsoft Marbles (try finding THAT game it's MIA as far as I know) was packaged with an iteration of the Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad (either version 1.0 or 2.0) and by packaged I mean physically in the box on the same CD as the drivers - I could probably dig up the disk though I have nfi where it is.

Gex 2 was my favorite game for a long time. It had a distinct charm to it that hasn't been matched by any other game for me. I found the jokes really funny, the music was fun to listen to if a bit repetitive, and the graphics were pretty bland for the most part but each level had some pretty highly detailed imagery in the form of signs and posters and such.

I played the CRAP out of Gex 2 on my N64, years ago. My brother and I traded off when we got frustrated and somehow made it as far as the Moo-Shoe Pork boss fight without cheating. From there, though, it just got too unbearable to continue. That, and we both kind of got tired of the damn gecko wondering why there's not a Baby Gap in the mainframe levels. =P

I remember playing all of these games a lot. When I emulated them again not all that long ago, I was hoping 10 years of knowledge would help me get more of the references. I still have no idea what he's saying, half the time, although some of the quotes in the Mystery themed level from 3 are chuckle-worthy.
Seriously, who is Eva Gabor, and why does he have a wig fridge?
Also, couple of random useless facts:
- Nikki, the female character from Crystal's Dynamics 2.5d platformer Pandemonium, apparently makes a cameo in the game's ending, where apparently Gex is going to score with her. Moving on!
- Also, supposedly, Agent Xtra is played by Marliece Andrada, who compared to being the damsel in distress in a game about a TV-obssesed lizard, makes her roles in Playboy movies seem so much more dignified.

I never knew there was a particular company known for its GBC shovelware output. Has this "David A. Palmer Productions" done anything else of note? Is it still around? If not, has it simply taken on a new form with the same employees?

Yeah, they did Commander Keen GBC, and the GBA ports of Doom and Doom 2, which were based on the Jaguar port, the crappy GBC Earthworm Jim, and a couple of licensed games, including Babe. (Seriously? That's the best license you could get?) Not around anymore, to my knowledge.

Good stuff, Weasel.
Can anyone edit the logo to remove the Start/Options/Password from it?
Shouldn't we mention that the engines for the 3D Gex games were the basis for Akuji the Heartless and Soul Reaver?
Also the article could use an outro paragraph.

Weren't there hidden stages exclusive to the original 3DO? Or was that a myth?

You mean Planet X? Nope. I played them on the PSX version just fine.

Gex 2 marks a painful memory for me. Thing was, I really liked the demo that came with my first Playstation, along with the Einhander demo. For some reason, I decided I was going to get Gex 2. But the store was out of stock, instead carrying only Gex 64. So I buy it, at full N64 price, while Einhander was also there on the shelf for much less.
I'm still trying to figure out how that one happened.
