I remember that TV show, it was atrocious.
In fact, I think I saw the show before I played the game, and was put off of giving it a try for quite some time. After actually playing the NES Maniac Mansion, I refused to believe it was in any way related to the show... the title must've just been a coincidence.
edit... Oh, and the link back to page 1 says "back to page 2," just by the way.

It's a testament to how great DOTT is when I haven't played it in years and remember all that so vividly.

I think you should give a mention to the GBC Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers. It plays just like (a simpler) Maniac Mansion, with multiple characters, a mansion, lab, etc. It's super easy, but nice to have on the small screen. I think this is the only MM style game on any portable (not counting DS).
I found a mispelling on the first page, it says "calender" instead of "calendar".

Minor grammar mistake in the first paragraph; "the most famous Lucasfilm's Maniac Mansion" should read "the most famous was Lucasfilm's Maniac Mansion".

Nitpicks!
Wasn't her name Sandy?
I feel compelled to point out that electricity wasn't invented. (But doesn't Ben Franklin himself say otherwise in DotT?)
I think the word "task" might work better than "quest."
I suddenly remember having a crush on Laverne when I was in the fourth grade. Hmm.

No mention of the many fanmade "Maniac Mansion Mania" mini-episodes? I'm pretty sure some of those were translated from the original German, though I lost track of them long ago. www.maniac-mansion-mania.com/I thought the main theme was pretty darn snappy, even on the PC speaker. What's this about the entire mansion losing power? I guess that happens sometime after Fred goes to the arcade? Now, did someone say nitpicks? *cackles maniacally* Jones and the Last Crusader:

Yeah, at a certain point there's a cutscene where Fred talks to Edna about turning off the power for something with his Zom-B-Matic, so the lights go out. God help you if you haven't found the good batteries by then...

Wow, Maniac Mansion was the first point&click adventure I ever played (unless you count Murder on the Mississippi), on a friend's Amiga back in elementary school. Because of that, it has always remained the representative LucasArts game for me, rather than Monkey Island.
I found it kinda lame that Maniac Mansion Enhanced used Razor's censored hair from the NES version.

Nice article! DoTT was one of my favorite adventure games, and one of the most laugh out funny games I have played. I especially love the voices for the talkie version with the person who played Les Nessman from WKRP doing the voice of Bernard. I like how the MM files that come with DoTT can be used to play the original straight from the ScummVM menu (too bad the other method to play it doesn't work from ScummVM, but this method is much better anyway).

So which version should I go for?

I'd go with the NES one, but the Enhanced remake is a bit closer to the PC versions.

Yeah, I suppose the censorship won't be so bad, especially since I'm not biased by the experience on non-censored versions.

I'd reccommend PC V2 in ScummVM over the NES game. I think the game works best without music.
