www.hardcoregaming101.net/benthere/benthere.htmI LOVE both of these games. I feel they speak deeply to me and my sense of humor. They are also super British. I bought them off on a whim together for $5 on Steam and did not regret it. They look decidedly low-tech (and not in a retro 8/16-bit kinda way) but the writing is aces, and some of the puzzles in the second game are really cool. I wanted to put this up together to contrast with Runaway, the polar opposite - a series that looks really good but has really terrible writing. Both seek to channel "golden era" of adventure games. One fails, one succeeds. Guess which one is which?

Yes, this game absolutely cries out for voice acting. I wonder if it's possible to convert it into a "talkie" version. =P
[Ben, upon using Dan on a burnt-out street light] Dan might deserve a good lamping, but the lamp doesn't deserve a Danning.

The current Steam sale prompted the revelation that Zombie Cow Studios is no more... because they've changed their name. www.sizefivegames.com/

Oh right, and they canned the third game. I updated the book article to reflect that, but I don't think I fixed up the site article.

It will be worth updating again: www.sizefivegames.com/2011/09/23/announcing-ben-there-dan-that-special-edition/I find some of the added detail to the graphics to be unnecessary. Those blurred foreground objects are quite bad. Anyway, I liked these games enough but far from loving them. They're surely well designed with some excellent puzzles and have many fun moments but they have something that doesn't "tick" with me. Maybe it's the general attitude of the protagonists, which I cannot stand.

Well since a third new game is almost confirmed(which isn't the canceled "revenge of the balloon headed mexican"), they'll have no choice but to update it!
I wonder if there will be voice acting this time...

Honestly as much as I'd love voice actng, it'd have to be on the levels of COMI and ToMI etc for me to love the product.
Also, my heart is raised to hear of a third game.

Good lord I adore these games. Such hilarious and in-depth writing, it's the most beautiful love letter to old school adventure games I've ever seen.
They do however annoy me (annoy in the absolute best way possible) due to the insane amount of responses to every item. I just can't bring myself to use a item in a puzzle correctly without first trying to use it on every other item in the game, just so I can hear the funny responses. And 99% of the time, there IS a unique response. Truly the creators of the game outdid all expectations.
I am upset to see no news of a new game, but it's probably for the best. Better to end on a absolute high than a disapointment. Still, if they ever got inspired to create one last game in the series and did a good job on it....I would be overjoyed.

Right now it's being given away by Bundle Stars and PC Gamer: woobox.com/kppx7kSince I already had my Facebook "like" to BS's page, and only that, I don't know if at least one of those shown there is required, or just put your e-mail and it's done.

I think I have these games. I should probably play them. Meanwhile..
"In a world without Monkey Islands, Space Quest and Simon the Sorcerers" the pluralization is lacking for Space Quests.
"There are posters of Maniac Mansion and Full Throttle that adorn their wallss." --> There are posters of Maniac Mansion and Full Throttle that adorn their walls. (wallss->walls)
"Although Lucasarts games were primarily aimed at adults," I feel like it should be either "Lucasarts' games" or "the Lucasarts games".
"It's also prepared a response for interacting with nearly everything, making the feel quite rich." Perhaps "making it feel quite rich", though even then the "it" could be more specific.
" It's a short game, too, and ones that ends on a twist and a pseudo-cliffhanger, nicely leading into its sequel." -> It's a short game, too, and one that ends on a twist and a pseudo-cliffhanger, nicely leading into its sequel. (ones->one)
"One of the kookiest gag is the "Racism" slider in the Options menu, which doesn't really seem to do much of anything, although it's impossible to set to absolute zero, a self acknowledgment that, yes, Germans probably shouldn't take this too seriously." -> "self acknowledgement" should maybe be "self-acknowledgement", though it's not really a self-acknowledgement, maybe an acknowledgement, or perhaps even a suggestion.
