www.hardcoregaming101.net/hoboken/hoboken.htmThis is Legend's attempt at a combo adventure/RPG hybrid, and it works much better than Shannara, a later game which I suspect uses the exact same underlying engine. It's a very funny game, written by interactive fiction ace Steve Meretzky, and there's lot of great references to the NY-NJ area. I've lived here my entire life, and it's pretty cool to see real places show up as a town in RPGs. It's like, Morristown! I drive there for Cluck U Chicken! East Orange! I used to live next to that town! What a hole! Anyway, unlike Legend's other games, this one seems prohibitively expensive on the second hand market, which suggests it has a nice cult following, even though I haven't seen much written about it.

This game is really awesome and I'm glad I tracked down a version of it to download, if the prices are as gougingly high as you say they are...

This game looks really interesting. I actually read all the texts, as they were funny (most are just meh). Definitely something I'll keep an eye out for.

Easy enough to find on abandonware sites and play using dosbox. Maybe the best purchase I made for its price, since I remember getting it for about a $1 at some clearance sale way back along with another actually shitty game (Little Divil) and ended up being pleasantly surprised. Probably did more to turn me on to text based adventures than any other one single game, and having revisited it recently to see if it held up, I'd say the article is fair to it.

Surprise, surprise! This game has turned up on GOG today. Running in DOSBox, of course. www.gog.com/games?devpub=piko_interactive&page=1I expect the details of the backroom negotiations for these things are less than riveting, though I still kind of wish I knew the details.
