I'm not that interested in Axelay, although maybe I could grow to like it like you did. Because, when I played it I couldn't handle the mode7 aspect. Depth perception is not my forte.
I'll probably go for R-Types, since I dislike playing things of XBLA most of the time.

It's pretty easy to pick up and play; I'm not terribly good at shooters but I liked it a lot.

Yeah, I didn't like the Mode 7 at first, either. First two times I played it I thought that Rob and Mike were just nostalgia-inebriated in their liking of it. I finally sat down and played it a while, though, and it's ended up being one my very favorite shmups ever. I think when I did my top 101, it was ranked 3rd in the genre. Honestly, without them, I wouldn't have gotten into a load of great games. It also helps that R-Types is 6 bucks and R-Type Dimensions is fifteen. I bought R-Types around when it first came out YEARS ago and hated it because I thought it was asininely difficult (I think I only got it because it was like 10 bucks and in a discount bin). Funny that R-Type is one of my favorite games, now. I honestly think sucking at it years ago helped season my appreciation for it years later.

I've had the same experience with Axelay. The mode7 and weapon system didn't really work for me and they seemed kind of gratuitous. What really made it click for me was playing it in its entirety anyway and getting to the amazingly awesome final boss. I think the main problem I had with it had the time was that I was seeking something more standard; once I got over it I saw that it was a great game and a truly epic experience. And it has some of the best music on the SNES too.

I just started a game of Sonic Rush Adventure and I don't think I've ever felt so insulted by a game in my life. I was hoping to play some Sonic but instead I was treated to, in order, an intro cutscene, some senseless dialogue with some kind of animal with ridiculous pretend-british mannerisms (or is it supposed to be Australian? I don't care), a map screen, an unnecessary tutorial stage where I can learn how to perform tricks on springs, some map screens and dialogue, some sort of 3D scene where I get to take three steps in the direction of Tails and talk to him so he can build some kind of jet ski or boat or thing before instructing me on how to use a stylus to scroll a map and draw a line to the new island I can visit. I try to draw a line, but for some reason it doesn't work. This was because Tails first wanted to make sure I got the hang of this tricky map-scrolling business before introducing the line-drawing mechanics. I'm finally allowed to draw a line going to the island to the West (complete with left-facing arrow in case you don't know what West means), before being treated to some kind of jet ski level tutorial and, I don't know, some dialogue. Finally I get to the first proper level where I can just hold right about 80% of the time and I find a treasure at the end with some sort of green material with which I'll probably be able to build some other kind of stupid boat or something eventually. I hate this game

For the record, I've never been that fond of Axelay for the same reason- I just can't handle the mode-7 areas. :/ It's a damn shame, too, because the game is otherwise pretty cool and I really wish I could get into it more. If you haven't played them before, I strongly reccommend hunting down R-Type Delta and R-Type 3, in that order. They're- IMHO- the best games in the series. R-Type Delta is really the game that got me hooked on shooters in the first place. - HC

After a couple of weeks, I've finally gotten through the Ripperdome Arena in Cybermage's second level. Now I have to deal with a Nekron invasion - and I kind of wish I hadn't blown my $2000 from betting on the arena fights, because it would have come in really handy when I need to buy an SMG!

Just started my third playthrough of Phantasy Star Zero. By the end, this time around, I'll have beaten the game as every race, class, and gender at least once.
Unfortunately, because I don't have access to wifi and therefore decent multiplayer, I do feel like I've missed out on some of what the game has to offer, because in all three cases, I had to play both primary damage dealer and party babysitter at the same time, so I haven't really been able to tinker with some of the unique abilities or strategize as much as I'd like.
I think this playthrough is going to be the toughest, though, because of work and school, I'm not going to be able to marathon through it the way I did last time, so nailing the timing on combos and evasion is going to take more work. I could always grind to mitigate the difference, but I don't really want to play it that way.

I cheated at the gambling minigame when I left the Ripperdome. It broke the game and made it ridiculously easy, but I didn't feel that bad when I got to play around with a lot of cool weapons afterward. If you can manage to make it back to the Ripperdome after finding some cash, don't be afraid to cheat.

I've been playing a bit of Smash (Melee) alongside everything else, ie Crash (almost done. Just got to sit down and do it), FFII (IV), Blazing Lazers, and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. I'll update a bit.
Crash I've not done anything more in Crash, but it's still there. I just need to sit down, and get 'er done. It'll be kinda sad, but I do want to unlock those extra levels/the "true" (?) ending.
Blazing Lazers Urgh. I need to get better with my bombs. They don't clear screens, but they certainly helped when overwhelmed... I usually have like 20 of them and then I die. I should also start using my continues, I suppose. But I'm learning a lot without them.
Final Fantasy IV I played for like 6 and a half hours yesterday, and I'll probably do something similar today. Just got to wait for my bro to get back from Uni and we'll jam. I changed some names, if any of you are at all interested. Or not, I don't care either way.
Bruce - Cecil Kane - Kain Sid - Cid Jil - Edward (lmao) Claire - Rosa Cammy - Rydia Turk - Palom (?) <-- The Guy one Naile - Porom (?) <-- The Girl one Goichi - Yang Tellah - Tellah
I believe that's about it. I've beaten Cagnazzo (sp?) and am heading for some Dark Elf Magnetotron. Damn... So I need to buy wood shit? I guess.
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
I wish blowing heads up was easier, that's about it. However, it's still a pretty dandy game, shame it doesn't use real light guns... But whatever. I'm at the 2nd or 3rd Mansion chapter, so Scenario 2 chapter 3 we'll go with. I'm playing through it with my step bro, which is nice, since we don't do that much together. Magnum <3
Melee
I'm working my way up through the difficulties, starting at easy (not very easy) and I'll do medium sometime soon, probably after I do easy with one character. So it isn't like I'm going through everyone on every difficulty level. I'm actually tempted to start a new file and get all of the unlocks myself. I forgot how much fun Smash was, Brawl had ruined my liking for the series.
I'm gonna look around the house to see if we still have 64. We lost a bunch of our N64 games in the move... Including Tigger's Honey Hunt which is actually a pretty rad game -- I should post that in "But I Like It!" sometime.
Playing Melee again prompted me to write this rant to a friend, I dunno if you're interested at all, but whatever:
So I decided to go back to playing Smash semi-regularly again, but I'm playing Melee. Really, all of that "additions" in Brawl are such bullcrap. Trophies are so unbalance, with some breaking the game absolutely. They added like how many legendary Pokemon to the Pokeballs and it seems you get them all the time. The Subspace Emmesary (sp?) mode is also balls. It's sorta "fun" with a friend, but that's only if your friend is a fun guy, otherwise it feels so loose and slapped on like the rest of the game.
Plus, all the stages in Brawl are really stupid. The only good ones are the stages from 64 and Melee; even Shadow Moses sucks because it is a pain to knock out other characters if you're not playing a heavy hitter.
Melee's faster. The graphics don't have that annoying "epic" design to them.
The items are SO much better, because they each do something good and different, with the exception of what the flower and Mr. Saturn?
The one thing Brawl has above Melee is some of the tunes, but because of this whole song selection thing it makes the game too superficial, I think. It's not about fighting as your favourite characters in a fun solid game because they added too many options for the extra crap. If they add costumes to the next one I will be upset.
They need to go back to what made Melee good, and the options they give you should be about making a solid platfighting game, and not making some super fanwank extravaganza.
Cut back the characters and remove the clones, something they tried and didn't really do at all. Speed up the gameplay and make it WAY less floaty: seriously everybody can practically float in Brawl. Some characters really can, and near infinitely! ROB for example! Even Kirby and Yoshi weren't super cheap before, and they can float. But they ruined even that.
Is this what it means to be "next-gen"? Make a game that is nothing but fluff, with a stripped down combat system of the prequel? Should people focus on upgrading the game itself and then add extra stuff?
Making a game that is fun-for-all and easily-accessible doesn't mean you shirk off your duty to make a balance game. It means that you do that first and add the extra stuff afterwords.

Final Fantasy IVI believe that's about it. I've beaten Cagnazzo (sp?) and am heading for some Dark Elf Magnetotron. Damn... So I need to buy wood shit? I guess. Use the bow and arrow as much as you can in the Dark Elf parts, you should have a decent stash of arrows that aren't metal if you haven't sold them all off. But definitely get wood stuff for those who can't use arrows. Also, remember to unequip accessories that are made of metal. And, don't sell your regular weaponry! You'll be able to use it later!

Oh yeah, bows. I've only had Rosa use those, but there's a bunch of dudes who can equip them.
How about Goichi's (Yang's) claws? Are those metal? For example, the lightning claw (just the first one I remembered)

Yang's weapons don't count as metal, no, so you can use him freely. Just remember to remove his accessories and armor if it is metal, or you'll have a lot of trouble in battle, as that area isn't easy, even with the version you're playing. PS- Smithee, if you do have any questions about IV, you can PM me anytime

Thanks ;D
I'll remember that offer, and probably take you up on it. One more question: About how far am I? 1/4th? 1/3?
Actually, don't answer that.
