Sounds interesting. Which period are your mags from?

Just found this topic today and it's pretty awesome, so I had to register . I'm not sure why there's so many Korean games though when this topic is supposed to be for Taiwanese =p
I wanted to ask one thing. Is there any confirmation that Dunk Kong game was released? I did a simple search on Google with no results, but I can't really make any immediate assumptions based on that. I'd love to try it though.

There are no Korean games in this thread, it's just that I use mostly Korean localized versions as I can't speak chinese.
Not sure about Dunk Kong. The Korean version might be unreleased, while it could have a different title in China.

It's shocking how dead the Chinese PC game scene is now. Besides the couple realistic Asian RPGs (known for the realistic box art and in-game graphics) you mentioned, there's been nothing in the last year. Amongst offline games, Falcom and US games are still pretty hot over there though. I remember at least a dozen varieties of RPGs a few years back and plenty of other genres even further back (as depicted in these screenshots). Sad times.
I have a fair collection of Chinese/Taiwanese games over the years (unfortunately, missed the best part in the mid to late 90s) but it's oftentimes difficult for me to distinguish between real and counterfeit (since even respectable stores offer fakes). I know little of the history of their scene but if you just need more names, I can list some.

Someone found Dunk Kong. Apparently it was released under the name King Kong 10 elsewhere. You can find a video on Youtube, I'm not posting a link since it leads to a download and I have no idea about how this sites tolerates that sort of thing. Ganelon, if you've got more games then definitely share. I've been trying to find more games to get into but haven't given it much time. The only one I've thoroughly experienced is the Heroine Anthem series, which is probably my favorite, especially with its music. 'I've only got two other recommendations. Dragon Force/光明戰史 - A clone of Shining Force, the English title is actually a combination of Dragon Quest and Shining Force(thanks to a Youtube video for pointing that out). One interesting thing about it is that it's the prequel to Super Dragon Force on Super A'can. I'll have to try to get an original copy some day because every single download seems to not work right, once you're out of the first town you can't enter anywhere on the map except for the final level. must be some sort of anti-piracy thing they implemented. From comments I've seen though, this game wasn't too popular in Taiwan, some people apparently don't like it at all. Dino Century/恐龍世紀 - A strategy/simulation game. You raise dinosaurs that can grow stronger on the battlefield while fighting the opposing dino team Pretty simple, and not much to look at, but I enjoyed it enough. It also has some nice music I think. One of the reasons I played it is because it appears also to be a precursor to an unreleased A'can game that clearly was the same idea. You tube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHBdi6WeNzUI still need to discover more, especially since it makes a good excuse to practice my Mandarin, which otherwise goes unused most of the time.

Don't worry about that, we're very lax about stuff we're sure doesn't cause any existing company possible sales damage and is as highly unlikely to carry any cease&desist orders to the site.

With their infrastructure expansion (and forays into commercialism), I would have imagined there'd be MORE game development in China. That's sad to hear :/.

If you check out my PC game list - hereYou'll find a few Chinese games, all with their original titles to aid in any Googling you wish to do and most of them with links to useful websites with further info (just hover over the little globe icon next to each title).

It's another belt scroller, for up to three players simultaneusly. As you can see the art is gorgeous. It runs in DOS high resolution mode, but doesn't fill the entire screen (except for the story screens in between stages), so I guess this might be a port from an arcade game? Assuming by the looks of the controllers on those screenshots it may be a port from a Super A'Can game Also, Dunk Kong is one awesome name. I would have preferred Dunking Kong, but that would have been too obvious

Derboo, the correct chinese characters for that Cabal clone game are 时空特勤组. You can download the game here: ishare.iask.sina.com.cn/f/6750084.htmlUnfortunately its a lot worse than it looks. This forum the best current place for Taiwanese games because each upload has screenshots to show what the game looks like which is rare for this stuff bbs.kmwyj.cn/index.asp?boardid=4Not all the uploads are Taiwanese developed games but most are, and going through all the pages in that forum will yield a good chunk of Taiwanese dos game history. I've downloaded shitloads of Taiwanese games over the years and have a bunch that aren't uploaded on that forum yet, but new stuff is being added all the time so that's definitely the place to keep checking. What frustrates me most about Taiwanese stuff is that while I find the always colorful and interestingly designed visuals incredibly appealing, the games are about 95% RPG's with turn based battle systems, which doesn't do to much for me. The thrill of finding a Taiwanese action game is always there though (or an action RPG), and they are always really unique and cool. Some screen shots of Prince of Evil were posted on page 1, but most everyone has only seen the first areas of the game and have never got to a boss, which are all massive and awesome. These vids show boss battles (note that the 2nd vid is the last boss so only watch if you don't care about spoiling it) www.youtube.com/watch?v=85voGFqQC9Uwww.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ6g2O0Xu6IThe first dungeon maze can be pretty hard to get through, but after the first boss you get a map (accessed with 'm') that shows the layout of all other dungeons, so the game becomes much less frustrating in that regard. Anyway, hopefully this thread can help us all discover new stuff! Someone really needs to compile a big list of all Taiwanese developed PC games, just like that Korean one (I'm talking about the big text document, not the Korean games article on hg101)

Cool, I've been looking for screenshots of this game, because of the creepy character portraits: I couldn't find any download links on that forum for the life of me, but it's awesome enough just for the screenshots.

I figured you had to register to the forum to see download links, but I havnt done it myself. Just been using it for the screens. This is a great database of Taiwanese dos game downloads which has some games not on the other forum I linked www.gamebase.com.tw/forum/30032/topic/78629098/1There is a list on that first page. Anyone looking for a certain game should ctrl-f the chinese title of the game there to find a download.

Wondering if I can get some help here. I downloaded 毀天滅地, which is a rather elusive win95 Taiwanese game. Pretty much no info online apart from various uploads like here: wphoto2003.billygame.com/read.php?tid=972&fpage=2Its a pretty damn cool looking RPG with VS action battle scenes. When I try play it I just get to the start up screen with the scorpion but then it stops and pressing a key gives a 'system init error' The upload sites with the game all require invite registration and such, but I managed to find the game on the enorth FTP server. I uploaded it here: www.megaupload.com/?d=0X1TOWLLpassword is game.enorth.com.cnIf anyone gets it working let me know!
