X Blades: "This Russian-developed game features a scantily clad chick based off manga, [...] and even shows a bit more skin."
A BIT more skin? That cover is outright embarrassing!

I was partially inspired to do a series of similar articles comparing NES/Famicom boxes (usually how Japanese boxes rely on anime/manga styles, while American boxes disregarded that for something else) by the original piece you did, so I'm very glad to see it come back. I find it fascinating how advertising works so differently between countries.

That's what I got out of this, too. *insert statement about Japanese women?*

Why would you not mention that the Japanese Crackdown/Riot Act cover was drawn by Monkey Punch, the creator of Lupin III?

Why would you not mention that the Japanese Crackdown/Riot Act cover was drawn by Monkey Punch, the creator of Lupin III? I guess that's why it looks like Lupin! Also, because I didn't actually know that. But I'll make a note of it, thanks!

Not trying to be nitpicking here, but for the "The Darkness" covers it says "These are similar, but the North American version shows the main character, while the Japanese one just has a creepy monster thing. ", while I'd say the Japanese one also shows the main character, just in side profile.

Why would you not mention that the Japanese Crackdown/Riot Act cover was drawn by Monkey Punch, the creator of Lupin III? Looks like my "poor man's Lupin III" remark was not that far off. It seems that most manga artists draw all their main characters the same way most of the times (Akira Toriyama, Katsuhiro Otomo, Tetsuo Hara).

To the best of my knowledge, Super Turrican was the only Turrican game released in Japan and it got a pretty badass early 90s mecha cover art. I think the game's actual graphics were left unchanged though

The article failed to explain how Front Mission Evolved, from Square-Enix, is a western game.

It was developed by Double Helix, which is based on California. It's technically a Japanese property, but it was made under the same circumstances as Metroid Prime (Japanese producer/publisher, American developer) I figured I'd include it.
