www.hardcoregaming101.net/spelunker/spelunker.htmI wanted to cover this series months ago because of the Spelunker remake on the Japanese PSN - but getting Japanese PSN cards is really expensive, so I skipped in it. Then, after something like a year and a half, they finally released it in North America. I can't imagine many people actually bought it, since we don't have the same history with it that our Japanese brothers do, despite it originating as an American game. Anyway, this game always fascinated me because it was fully mapped out in the first video game magazine I ever got, an issue of Video Games and Computer Entertainment. It always looked pretty cool, although I probably would've hated it, because the controls are awful, and the main character can get killed by the merest stumble. But that's why Spelunker has earned itself a place in pop culture infamy, for having one of the weakest video game characters of all time. Also, I wanted to apologize for not having proper comparison shots of Spelunker HD. I moved a few months back and I have no idea where my S-video cables are, although it's just as well, considering I'm planning on purchasing an HD capture card after the holidays anyway.

There are guilty pleasures, and there is Spelunker.I love this game despite its shortcomings (and the fact that a guy that supposedly has to go through small passages has a beer belly,at least on the western computer versions).I didn't know it was so popular in Japan!

I find it fascinating how some non-Japanese games are more popular in Japan than where they originated from.

Guessing freeware PC remake type things don't count, though this is apparently coming to X-box Live. This seems to be Spelunker/Rogue mix. www.spelunkyworld.com/

I didn't know there was an MZ-700 or Game Boy version of Spelunker HD. =P (That's evidently a typo, ladies and gentlemen.)

This seems to be Spelunker/Rogue mix. www.spelunkyworld.com/ I meant to mention Spelunky but forgot. It's not really related at all, actually, beyond the basic concept of "dude exploring caves", they're completely different games. The guy in Spelunky can fall more than his own height, for example!

I'm trying to find this one Hentai Doujinshi I read...it featured the Spelunker guy dying from having sex, of all things.

I can only remember a glitch-TAS I watched once, and a few amusing MUGEN matches. Anyway, let's have a spot of grammar.
tiny piles of rubble which somehow causes tiny piles of rubble which somehow cause
spawns a great vertical spans a great vertical
innocuous jumps end in death innocuous jumps to end in death
although it require although it requires
opened a part opened with a part
not many American games not many American gamers
versions, only to scare versions except to scare

And now there's gonna be animation too! tinycartridge.com/post/2568129619/trailer-for-spelunker-sensei-a-flash-animatedPersonally, although I have tried Spelunker, I remember it most well from those Michael's Quest video. I was always fascinated by its meme-status in Japan and found it funny how he always dies in his video cameos. Speaking of which, is there any specific term for those kind of Japanese flashes/videos?

If I have more info regarding Spelunker HD, Spelunker Black, or Spelunker World, how can I contribute?

Speaking of Spelunker 2, while the game doesn't have much text or story, the ending you get is dependent upon your virtue. There's three of them. Also, the main baddie is this dude called Gaila, but you don't actually fight him. You fight the dude that slayed Gaila and took his place.
