It might just be the ESRB's guidelines for advertisement.

I've seen a lot worse on boxart than that. Seems like a really bizarre change to make.

Odd that this game isn't available at more of the various downloadable game services. But for now it's at Impulse - and on sale for $20 this weekend. www.impulsedriven.com/graymatter

The retail version at Amazon is also pretty cheap by now. (12.99)

Hello guys, I've signed up specifically to reply to this topic. I wanted to say thank you to derboo for the most amazing review I've ever read. The recap of the history of graphic adventures, the mention of Roberta Williams, the deep knowledge with which you could compare Gray Matter's features to those of past games, the photo of The Scarlet Furies, etc. really put this review above any other. I've just cleared Gray Matter and it was beautiful to read such a heartfelt analysis. As you said, the two main characters are the main asset of the game, they're simply perfectly crafted and I'll remember them for a long time. Samantha might be one of the best characters ever, considering the short span of her adventure. Props to Jane Jensen and her choice of voice over actors. Though I know it couldn't fit in a review, it'd be nice to see you write more about the ending. Despite a slow pace during the actual game, the ending was rushed and many questions are left unanswered or at least they don't have any clear explanation. As for the direction taken by the thread, you ought to know that Gray Matter has been recently greenlit on Steam's Greenlight which means Steam and dtp entertainment are discussing the terms of releasing the game on Steam

Thanks for the compliments. I think it still is the longest review of a single game I ever wrote. There are indeed lots of things that can be said about the ending, although it's been a while and my memory isn't that solid anymore. I agree that it feels "rushed" in a way, although I never could confidently judge whether this was rooted in development issues, or things were actually meant to happen so fast so suddenly.
I do hope dtp gets its games on Steam in general. However, Venetica has apparently been greenlit since May, and nothing has come out of it yet.

You're right, but Venetica has been struck down by most reviews and it doesn't have any pedigree. Perhaps neither party sees any hope in it. But I do hope that a major Jane Jensen's game that is actually a great graphic adventure would get more attention and better sale forecasts. Though I'm afraid we'll never see a Gray Matter sequel anyway.

Though I'm afraid we'll never see a Gray Matter sequel anyway. I wouldn't be too sure of that. IIRC, one of the games Jensen pitched for her Kickstarter project was Gray Matter 2. Eventually it was decided to make Moebius first, but that doesn't mean all the other ideas were just thrown away. There's also currently one more unrevealed game Pinkerton Road is working on in cooperation with a publisher, which may or may not be Gray Matter 2.

It's just that Gray Matter took 7 years to be completed and it didn't even get widespread accolades so I need not to keep my hopes up, lol.

I've heard the release of the game on Steam (and others like Venetica) is indefinitely in limbo because the publisher, dtp Entertainment, has filed for bankruptcy. Anyway, that's the word on the Steam boards. gamepolitics.com/2012/04/30/report-dtp-entertainment-filing-bankruptcy#.UjYTcj8fhUYEven if that's true, I don't really get it. Any trustee in bankruptcy would encourage a company to do something that requires little effort that would ensure more cash in the creditors' pockets. But that's the Canadian system, I don't know about elsewhere...

It seems that Gray Matter was entered after dtp filed for bankruptcy, though. So they were probably thinking the same. But who knows, maybe things turned out differently...
