All right, I just vaguely remembered about an old arcade game I played ONCE years ago. The distinctive feature is that you're driving a car, with a wheel and all, but you've also got a light gun to shoot enemies with. (No, it's not Lucky & Wild, where you have two joystick guns. I'm pretty sure this was a light gun with a cord that you could easily hold, point, and shoot.) Graphics appeared to be sprite-based/2D despite the first-person perspective, and there was this weird electric arc thing on the front of the car that may have been used to pick up gems or something. What appeared to be the first boss of the game was this UFO thing with three windows. The enemy would randomly show up in one of them and take potshots at you. Never did get beyond that part back then, though it would seem like cake nowadays. Unfortunately, I don't even really remember the title of it, making it difficult to research, but I could probably pick it out if I saw the arcade cabinet again. EDIT: I downloaded a whole MAME art pack just to try and whittle things down, filtered it to light gun games, and Night Stocker caught my eye for some reason. The MAME cab pic confirmed it, and the KLOV page confirms it even more.

My sister's ex once described a Game Gear Tennis RPG kinda game. It was traditional tennis, but you could get experience and money to buy different gear and things.

My sister's ex once described a Game Gear Tennis RPG kinda game. It was traditional tennis, but you could get experience and money to buy different gear and things. MobyGames only lists three tennis games for Game Gear: Andre Agassi Tennis, Pete Sampras Tennis, and Wimbledon Championship Tennis. It sounds to me like Andre Agassi is close, since MG's description says that it includes a Skins Game mode where you earn money for each time the ball is hit. [edit] Unless it's a Japan-only title, which MobyGames seems to really lack any information on...

Mario Tennis GB on the GBC is often described as a tennis RPG. You don't think he mistakenly meant that, do you? It's a colour handheld, and maybe he asked someone: what was that colour handheld called? And someone said "Game Gear" not realising he meant GBC. Just a thought. I also recall was a tennis RPG for the PC-Engine/TG16. Maybe he played it on a handheld TG16 (Turbo Express) and mistakenly thought it was a Game Gear? I'd bet money this was the case! magweasel.com/2009/06/23/i-love-the-pc-engine-pro-tennis-world-court/

And that's why I'm not the go-to source for identifying things - I often take what information I'm given too literally. =P

It's been really bugging me, but I'm trying to find the name of an 80's arcade game... It was (I think) a vertically oriented shoot 'em up and the thing that sticks out to me the most is that the enemies were these amazon-like women riding serpentine dragons. The sprites were not that detailed, but the imagery was striking enough.

Thanks for giving it some thought. It's not Phelios though, the game looked more primitive with black / spacy backgrounds.

I have played it on emulator. I don't think I have ever seen the real arcade machine.

I saw it once, on the ferry boat to England, when I was a kid, back in the 80's. I was beginning to think that it was all a dream.

I remember hearing something about an XBL Indie game that was bassically a rip off of Chu Chu Rocket, but I have no idea what it's called. Anyone try something like that?

Here's one for you:
An old-school PC strategy game with a map that had bases which generated drones for you to command. The AI had the same type of units as you (which had different graphics based on the level: knights, samurai, robots, and boxes of french fries). The object was to build more bases and control more of the map than your opponent - trying to take over everything.
