www.hardcoregaming101.net/gadget/gadget.htmThis Japanese-developed interactive movie/adventure game was apparently rather popular when it was released, though I'd only first heard of it a few months ago. I haven't played it yet myself, but it's got a nicely trippy art style. It seems hard to find the original game, but it was released last month on iOS platforms, which should be suitable for a first person game like this.

FYI, Alice: An Interactive Museum is quite possibly the most expensive PC game out there right now, and has apparently sold for four figures in recent history. This one is probably not quite as rare.

It isn't - it looks like there's a Euro version of Gadget on the Amazon marketplate for $15.
I'm vaguely curious about Alice and that L-Space game mentioned.

Thanks for reading the article. I couldn't believe I had never heard of this one, and I'm grateful that Kurt brought it to my attention.
I have copies of both Alice and L-Space. I'll eventually do articles on them so all three of Haruhiko Shono's games are covered.
If you track down Gadget, get the newer version (Past as Future). The upgraded graphics and such are really nice and it ran like a dream on my extra XP machine.

Dagnabbit. I just checked the wikipedia article. Since the HG101 article was written earlier this year, Gadget has been rereleased on iOS: game.goo.ne.jp/igadget/index.htmlI know there couldn't have been anything posted about it at the time of writing. I read everything there was on the internet about the game. EDIT: Nevermind, looks like this was already caught in editing and mentioned in the first post.

Yeah, right before I posted it I googled around a bit and saw on Wikipedia it had been released just last month. I almost thought about getting it - only $5, which isn't too bad. It's over a gig in size though, naturally.

I wonder if the English translation on iGADGET is good, judging by the English on the official site. Unless they just lifted the translation from the Cryo release.

I would get it if I had an iPad. But I can't imagine it being as much fun to play through on the iPhone. It's more like a movie than a game, so I don't think I'd enjoy it on a phone's tiny screen.

I think this game is utter garbage. Sorry but it was just click-click-click Why do I have to go there? Why do people say such stupid things? Why do they even talk to me? What the fuck is happening? God this is so boring. Oh, the game has ended.

Because I didn't like the game and wrote that?
(I played it a few months ago. I wouldn't have even beat it if the first disc change wasn't after half an hour tops.)
EDIT: Of course everyone else is entitled to his own opinion of the game. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

EDIT: Of course everyone else is entitled to his own opinion of the game. It just wasn't my cup of tea. It just seems like maybe you're not the game's target audience, maybe this isn't your genre, some other plausible reason why you're so far the only one in the thread that doesn't like it.

Well, he is so far actually the only one in this thread at all who has stated his opinion of the game after playing (save for the article author, of course).

Well...
- as a game it had no real puzzles...well, one maybe. - as a game it had no real other gameplay, just click where you need to to speed the game along.
- as an interactive movie, the plot was nonsensical, as if the author did drugs during the writing - as an interactive movie, the characters didn't have any motivation to speak with the player, most of the people have no characterisation at all, they came off to me as being mouthpieces for the conspiracy/alien/mental illness/dictator/brain control plot
- as a piece of art, I thought that it was pretentious. Of course, I don't like many things that are declared art for the same reason. So that's just me.
- as something to engage the viewer/player the game was boring because more than 70% of this "piece" is just exiting trains, entering trains, running around train stations triggering things with no real "cause and effect" going on, and walking around inside trains talking to people who for some reason decide to part their "wisdom" with you.
- as a psychedelic thing it was too dull to look at.
Of course, if you have played the game and decide otherwise, YMMV and everyone is, as I said, entitled to his own opinion.
This is just mine which I formed during the playthrough of this game which I had bought (even if it was for a small amount of money).
EDIT: Having a differing opinion than the majority doesn't make it the wrong one ;-)
