How can I have missed this game completely? Seems horrible and awesome at the same time. Very ahead of its time. Typos:[/u] Wile the arm controls are a fantastic concept, it doesn't work quite as well as it sounds. |
It also raises some uncomfortable questions, like why everyone took all their stuff with them, only kindly leaving their weapons lieing around. |

There's a vinyl record? EDIT: Agh balls, you meant long play, right? I can't believe the order in which my mind processed that. 30 seconds later it clicked over. I feel like such an old man.

I think it sums up nicely all the good and bad things about the game. It's too evident how much it was slashed but I have some doubts that the project had a really coherent direction. Ahead of its time was certainly but it also shows how trying too hard to be realistic (and not even in a coherent way) is counterproductive to fun.
Another typo i noticed: "seperate levels".

Seriously, definitely include Research Indicates glorious Lets Play in the links page. Boy do I love Trespasser for how far they strove and badly they burnt out. It's really a thing of beauty, in an alternate universe it was finished on time and bugless, in that world we play non-linear highly interactive non-scripted FPS titles.
Also additionally I believe it's either implied, outrightly stated or confirmed externally that Anne is hearing in her head Hammond's autobiography. Which even if it's not confirmed, it makes a great deal of sense.

The one thing that bothered me was...did they ever show Anne's left arm? I felt like I was playing as the drummer from Def Leppard half the time.
And yeah, interesting game with tragic execution flaws...but then again that describes a shitload of games from that era (ESPECIALLY Ultima 9, but even Fallout 2, with its bugs). Did PC developers even give a shit?!? I guess not as much when your studio's going under.
...ok, that wasn't fair, but still, it seemed like you could (can) duct-tape something together and send it to market a lot easier on PC than on consoles.

Canonically speaking, Anne broke her left arm in the accident that left her on the island. I forget where this is stated (either in an intro cutscene or in the manual) but she spends the game with her left arm in a makeshift sling, which is presumably not visible beyond her gigantic boobs. =P

The choice is to either have a complex 3D simulation with lots of freedom and lots of bugs, or a linear on-rails experience that works well. Console manufacturers simply didn't give that choice.

Nice work, although mentioning the beta that reminded me that the demo of the game was a separate level that was cut out of the final release (As you mentioned with the beta Pine Valley) and scaled back. I'm unsure if it's worth mentioning but there aren't too many games that feature unique demo levels (half-life, Starcraft...some others).

I think I might just be able to stand that velvety smooth voice for three hours. How uncommon for an LP!

So I'm getting curious to play this myself, I take it all I need to do is "acquire" the game CD, download and install the V1.1 patch, maybe the graphics updates patches from Trescom, and away I go?
Derboo, what tweaking did you do to your version?

Had my first playthrough with the vanilla game to get an authentic impression and authentic screenshots, then played around with the graphic patches. I don't even know if I recommend them unconditionally, as there's a certain charme to that mipmap popping...
