This is what seeing Saturn gameplay vids from Vysethedetermined2 has led me to: some of the most hammy (or perhaps cheesy if you want) FMV I've ever seen. It's from Data East's Side Pocket 2, also known as Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend (which, interestingly enough, was released first on the US. SP2 still has the FMVs and Minnesota Fats stuff), a pretty good game in the genre (this comes from my experience with the US-only Genesis version) which also has a story mode. I would tell you the story, but it's better if you just watch: (story mode starts at 3:14) Fats' overacting is the best. And, for those interested, here's the Japanese version: www.segagagadomain.com/movie-pages3/side2.htm (NOTE: I highly doubt the actual game itself has some intro FMV cut out, since Yakumo does cut out some stuff in order to show more of the game in his vids) (also, story mode starts at 0:51)

The music during the actual pool game really reminds me of Breath of Fire 3's OST for some reason.

I've always enjoyed Data East's billiard games (well, most of them, anyway). The music in these are jazzy goodness.

Ha, those are pretty funny. Reminds me of all those late nights I stayed up watching softcore and cheesy b-movies on Cinemax in the 90s as a kid.

UPDATE: Just downloaded an ISO of Minnesota Fats and I'm gonna rip all of the FMVs to then upload to YouTube. Just gotta convert those Cinepak files to another format.
EDIT: May have to do it tomorrow.

So this is sorta like Pocket Gals but with cheesy 90's FMV instead of odd anime girls stripping? They sure know how to make pool even better ;D

...so, as promised nearly three years ago...
Thank god that another upload of one of the cutscenes mentioned a program to convert Saturn FMV (FFMPEG, it's real good)

For a while there in the early 2000s Minnesota Fats Pool Legend was one of my top 25 Saturn titles, lol. I just loved the crap out of it. I found it to be so fun and replayable that I played it several days a week for a good long while.
Have yet to play Side Pocket on SNES, but I can only hope it's half as good.

For my money, the best cheesy FMVs came from Crusader: No Remorse and Golden Nugget. This is pretty good, too, though. I never thought I'd say this, but I kind of miss the FMV fad of the mid-to-late 90s.

On one hand, you've got stuff like Tesla Effect, and Five Nights at Freddy's, which is basically a spiritual sequel to Night Trap with more gameplay. And then you've got games that actually do have gratuitous live action FMV. Off the top of my head, there's the new Twisted Metal, Payday 2, Iron Sky, or whatever that game with the moon nazis was... It's an art that I'm glad isn't dying out entirely.

Is it possible to add the English FMV cutscenes/or replace the cinepak files into the Japanese iso of Side Pocket 2?

Is it possible to add the English FMV cutscenes/or replace the cinepak files into the Japanese iso of Side Pocket 2? Can't say I've tried it, mainly because the Side Pocket 2 ISO is impossible to find online, and the Minnesota Fats ISO was already hard to find anyway; I had gotten it from a now dead forum back in late 2011. However, I'm assuming that the filenames for the movies are the same on the Japanese version, so I guess it could be done.

I enjoyed the live action scenes from Mobile Suit Gundam 0079: The War for Earth. It was only released in Japan, but the scenes were actually filmed in America by Presto Studios, the designers behind the old Journeymen Project games (the third of which also had live action scenes).
