I'm slowly working my way through King's Field Ancient City and enjoying it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would (given my dislike for Demon's Souls). Shadow Tower Abyss is a game that I'm not entirely sure I'd enjoy but I'd be willing to give a shot assuming I could find it cheap enough. (ten minutes later) Fuck it, I just bought it. If someone is going to take the time to translate the damn thing for free, the least I could do is spend a few bucks on a used copy and give the translation a fair shot.

This game looked more interesting to me than the KF series, good to know the language barrier is now moot! Thanks for the link.

Should`ve probably mentioned this in the first post... The credit for the patch goes to the awesome people from Sword of Moonlight forum. The patch is in .ppf format and a program like PPF-o-Matic is required to apply the patch to the DVD image.

Ooh, thanks for the heads up. I'll have to inform my fiance of this. I bought him Abyss a long time ago, but he's still yet to play it much. He did play the original King's Field in Japanese (before a patch for that existed, I believe), but I think he'd prefer to play this in English.

Awesome. I assume the modified image would work fine on something like Open PS2 loader?

This game is awesome, it really is the missing link between King's Field and Demon's Souls.

Thanks for sharing the news, the patch works great! I've been curious about the game ever since Demon's Souls came out. Controls are a bit unwieldy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough.
edit: well, I've played a bit with control type 4 and it makes moving a lot easier since it's similar to standard FPS analog controls. However, can someone help me configure a mouse to replace the right analog stick in PCSX2? I'd like to try a keyboard and mouse setup. I know it's possible since I see the mouse options there in Lilypad, but I've tried every input type (windows messaging, raw input, direct input) and it doesn't work. When I test the mouse axis/buttons in the lilypad config window it works, but once in the game it doesn't recognize the mouse at all, not even the mouse buttons. If I somehow figure it out I'll pass on the information, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any tips.
edit 2: okay, I figured it out. If your mouse doesn't detect in the game try unchecking "start without mouse focus" in the lilypad plug-in. In the screen where you set the buttons, I recommend setting the dead zone for the mouse to zero on each axis as well as setting the sensitivity to something higher than default.

I don`t see why not. edit: well, I've played a bit with control type 4 and it makes moving a lot easier since it's similar to standard FPS analog controls. In the plugin`s general settings under 'Mouse API' choose 'Windows Messaging' and uncheck 'Start without mouse focus'. Like this: Then go to 'Pad 1' settings and bind the right analog stick`s movements to the mouse` axis: Works like a charm for me.

Yes, perfect mini-tutorial there. Coincidentally I figured it out like 2 minutes before you posted that, but thanks for looking into it.

KB + Mouse setup doesn`t seem to work very well with this game. Just doesn`t feel as natural as using Dualshock 3. No rumble too.
By the way, what graphics plugin have you been using with this game? - GSdx or ZeroGS? And if the former than in what mode - DX9 or DX11?

Yep, I switched back to a Dualshock 2. I use GSdx DX11 software, which from what I understand just displays 640x480 stretched out. I would like to use hardware so I can take advantage of the geometry scaling and better texture filtering, but it causes pretty bad texture flickering.
Also a quick question to see if it's just my controller or not, although not really an important one. When you rotate the view in this game is it supposed to snap into place? When I let go of the analog stick the view doesn't smoothly stop, but it wiggles for a second. Just wondering if my analog sticks are messed up or the deadzone/sensitivity needs to be changed. Or maybe it's just how the game is.

I`m using Dualshock 3 in "Xbox 360 Controller Emulator" mode(done through MotionJoy) with sensitivity and deadzone settings set to default values. Tried Logitech Dual Action and it`s also very smooth.
