hardcoregaming101.net/dynamitedeka/dynamitedeka.htmThese games are awesome. There are not a lot of other games that let you punch a robot's arm off and then beat him with it! That and using the spray can/lighter combo alone make the first game worth playing. I hope Sega comes back to these some day. I like the cheesy over the top 80s action movie feel these games have.

I love how the male protagonist looks like Bruce Willis's long-lost twin on the Japanese Saturn cover, despite the game officially not being related to Die Hard over there, whereas the guy on the US cover looks absolutely nothing like John McClane despite the outfit.
Edit: Some corrections:
You're refering to Jean Ivy as "Jean Day" when a screen right below shows her correct name.
The same with Caroline Powell, who you've called "Catherine Powell".
In the DDEX section you mention that the skyscraper this time around is not located in an "unnamed American city", despite mentioning the skyscraper in the original DD to be located in either LA (US version) or SF (Japanese version), so it's not exactly an unnamed city.
At one point, the article mentions DDEX to have been released in 2006, and then in 2007.
Also: Which of the character swaps in DDEX is supposed to be the floating "Buddhist"? I can only see a martial artist, a commando, a wrestler, a zombie, a Chinese lady, a Shintô priestess, an "S&M Voldo-style character", a jester and a girl that's presumably supposed to be Hindu. Or is Mantra Mandala refered to as a Buddhist in-game?

Thanks!
The "Buddha" type character is Mantra Mandala, who floats around in that cross-legged pose.
I'm also not entirely confident on the translations of those alternate costumes - most of them are fine, but a few (like the Voldo-type and the Chinese hopping zombie), I'm not sure on. It's all in katakana in both the game and on the official website.

Does anyone know the release date of the original arcade version of Dynamite Deka 2? Looking around at various sites they either say 1998 or 1999 but nothing more specific. I'm trying to find out if Crisis Beat, which resembles it in a lot of ways, came before or after (June 18 1998 according to Gamefaqs). Either way both of the main Dynamite Deka games are great and Crisis Beat isn't, but it'd be nice to know.

I find it very surprising that Crisis Beat seems to have been released earlier than Dynamite Deka 2. If the date on gamefaqs is accurate, and it should be sourceable since it has the Japanese PSX release number in the back, then CB came out in mid-1998. Not only is it set on a cruise ship, it even has that little map that shows up when you move to a different part of the ship, with the line showing your movements and all. Of course, we still don't know when DD2 was finished. Arcades have location tests before release, and those things could have been shown in previews, etc... Maybe DD2 amped up the silliness because CB came out first? It's hard to imagine CB as the innovator considering how mediocre it is (of course the setting itself and most of the plot is straight from a movie, so it's not that innovative either way). EDIT: On shmuplations' patreon list, there is a 1998 Dynamite Cop interview with Makoto Uchida. I'm sure that could shed some light if it eventually got translated. Also Uchida is a super underrated game developer. Doubt it'll get many votes, though.

Surprised to see no mention of the main guy's Bruce Willis look alike appearance in Project X-Zone. Is it due to lack of screenshots?

Surprised to see no mention of the main guy's Bruce Willis look alike appearance in Project X-Zone. Is it due to lack of screenshots? I would assume it's because Project X-Zone was released after the article was published and probably a lot of articles would have to be updated in regards to Project X-Zone. Speaking of which, I could have swore there was a Zombie Revenge article on HG101, but I can't find it.

Oh dear, I didn't realise this thread was necroed from 2012 >.<; Whenever I see a post I just tend to assume it's a new article, I forget sometimes folks reply to old threads for really old articles.
