A Shigeru Miyamoto game that never reached America (though it did reach Europe). Is religious iconography really that taboo in the US? Are Nintendo of America's guidelines too strict? Is anyone even missing out? All this and more... www.hardcoregaming101.net/devilworld/devilworld.htm

Well, this is true about lots of other early NES games like Ice Climber and Balloon Fight. I'm guessing that Nintendo would have liked to release this one in the United States, especially in the early days when there weren't too many titles for the NES. It would've been way too much work to censor it though (the whole game's theme would've needed an overhaul) and would have tasking on their limited resources. And similar to Ice Climber and Balloon Fight, Nintendo hasn't seen fit to update it. They tend to ignore a lot of their older franchises, after all.

They sorta updated Balloon Fight, with that Balloon Kid/Hello Kitty World thing, and the Tingle Club Nintendo bonus. Not exactly the best treatment for it, though. It's really evident that it's just a Joust ripoff in its original form, so maybe that's why they stayed away from it.

*Luckily if you get crushed by the border in the bonus round
*actually play Devil World in North America.

Miyamoto used a lot of Christian iconography in his early games. Legend of Zelda had a fair bit before it got localized.
