Oh man, we're all such fools - haven't plugged in my Mega Drive yet to check but RE: Sound Issues Poor Shaq Fu just can't catch a break, even emulated. Switch on SuperHQ mode in your KEGA Fusion audio settings, the music will now sound almost completely fine you can still hear a bit of chirping but at this point I'm placing at least part of the blame on KEGA. To whoever did the Genny music you weren't incompetent, at least not entirely, my bad. I consider it an absolute must to mention this in the review. Further testing has led me to identify that turning on FILTER as well, completely removes that annoying noise. Both Filter and SuperHQ must be switched on, then it's all kittens and sunshine

After messing around with the move boost tricks, it kind of reminds me of Tao Taido. In Tao Taido you press and hold buttons, hit a direction, and release to do a special attack. Anyone else see this connction? I don't know if the two are related in any way of if the similar mechanics are purely coincidence.

The revision is up. Thank you, everyone who helped out. The article looks much better now. All the stuff I missed like how the move boost button works is in now. Requested stuff like the sound emulation problems are also mentioned. Lastly, the general tone of the article has been changed. I'm not saying Shaq Fu a classic, but it's certainly not as bad as a lot of people say.

Woo, this is an article I can get behind. Although something I forgot to mention, might not be necessary to change but when you finish the Arcade mode (ie beat the final boss Sett) you actually do get a couple of ending graphic panels with some text both of which are unique to each character.
Interestingly enough if you've been reading the movelists online they've actually missed a couple of moves for the characters. I named them myself, I'm not sure if the game has names for them because I'm not even sure if it tells you them...it might but they're unlisted in the FAQs anyway.
Auroch
DIG UP - B, QCB+FK
Mephis
Lightning Strike - HCB+PK
Sett
Bandage Snare - F, QCF+PK

Thanks!
I knew about Bandage Snare and Lightning Strike, but not Dig Up. That's kind of cool.

It's Auroch's most useful move so it's kind of shocking that it's not even listed online >_<

I never understood the hatewagon. Not a great game, but it wasn't terrible. Plenty of painfully awful games in the generation, but sheep always go toward the low hanging fruit. Reading old reviews can be fun, too. Oh Shaq <3.

If we need another "popular hate target" I suggest we all shift our crosshairs to Ballz 3D, which is actually objectively terrible. (The only way I ever got anywhere in that game was abusing the monkey character, which can actually damage enemies purely by jumping on them and clinging to their heads.)

Meh, it's another of those "low hanging fruits" IMO, I've seen worse. At least they tried something really different and it was amusing in its ridicolousness at times - I still giggle when I think about putting the ballerina and the monkey in an armlock XD

I've never played Ballz 3D, but I've seen it in action. The graphics are kind of cool and all the characters remind me of the guy made of blocks from Gunstar Heroes, but rounder. The characters have a lot of movement, possibly more than Shaq Fu. There's also a Commodore 64 port, but I don't know much about that one. Is it better or worse than the 16 bit versions?

Of all the fighters to become Low Hanging Fruit, I've never understood how it seems like Fight Fever manages to escape that distinction.
You want? Taekwondo champion of the world.
No, no I do not.

Or what about Human Killing Machine? (Or maybe that doesn't count because Dr. Ashen already did quite a comprehensive video on it?)

And I'd definitely like to read an article on it, explaining what a brilliant game it is. That's the link, I think : www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zUkK14bHDk

Has Tongue of the Fatman/Slaughtersport been covered yet? Now there's a pair of terrible fighting games.
