There were only a couple of JRPGs localised into English for the 3DO, and Lucienne's Quest by Microcabin is one of them. The other, Guardian War, is kinda awful, leaving this as technically the best on the system. It's really simple, but still quite charming, and has some clever ideas (like money lending). www.hardcoregaming101.net/lucienne/lucienne.htm

Didn't knew Micro Cabin made 3DO games. Great article!

Sketcz, I think you're the only one that actually thought that the daisychaining of 3DO controllers was a good idea, since many people (read: AVGN) complained about it. I think it was a great idea, since for games with 3 or more players (Taiketsu Rumiizu!, Twisted: The Game Show, Zhadnost: The People's Party, and possibly another ones) you didn't have to shell out the cash for a multitap; you could just get more controllers.
Also, Lucienne's Quest does sound interesting, and I'm looking forward to some more 3DO-related articles.

I think the concept of daisy-chaining controllers, in an era where you'd otherwise have to shell out on a multi-tap, is probably the best fucking idea anyone has had in video games. As good as the d-pad itself.
It was an elegant solution that directly benefited players, saving them money, and didn't benefit the hardware manufacturers at all (who could no longer sell you multi-taps). Though it was also good for software developers who knew that anyone with enough controllers could play.
Anyone who criticises the idea of daisy-chaining controllers is an idiot.
Then again I've never liked the AVGN; the guy thinks he's being all ironic and funny, but he's actually amassing an army of foul-mouthed imbeciles who regard his word like holy scripture. It's like a bloody cult. In a hundred years video game history is going to be distorted because some porridge-brained cretin is going to say: "But in the year twenty fourteen the great AVGN declared it thus, so it must be true."
I wish I had the power of magic to simply dissolve his entire clan from the existence of the internet.

The only major problem with daisy-chaining is that, after so many controllers, there is just not enough power to drive them all. I think the physical limit is six, before the system stops recognizing them.

I wish I had the power of magic to simply dissolve his entire clan from the existence of the internet. Absolutely right; the 3DO's designers (one of them being RJ Mical, who was also responsible for the awesome Sinistar) definitely thought that up really well. And newer consoles also implemented it in a sort of way (that's what I think, at least) As for AVGN and similar folks, I too hate it when people say that something sucks because he said so. I've tried to avoid his opinion most of the time. Hell, I honestly liked some of the stuff he hated (Sega CD and 32X, Jaguar, 3DO, Die Hard NES, Moonwalker). Another one which I love that is massively panned by some internet reviewers is Sonic R. Love that one.

Die Hard is one of my all time system favourites for the NES. Such a great use of a license. I can't even bring myself to watch his video if he's been badmouthing it.

Oh yes, that game is the best. It is quite possibly the only good game Pack-in-Video ever made.

I've tried to watch one of AVGN's vids. I couldn't get past the intro song. My comedic standards are a little too high for even that. On Topic: I remember seeing Lucienne's Quest in an old game magazine, but it didn't have any details about the story, characters, or gameplay. I never had a 3DO, so I couldn't have played it even if I wanted to. Our local game/video store probably wouldn't have stocked it, anyway. The game looks like it has cute, good graphics and art. The character Be-o-Melda looks like Yoshimitsu from Tekken to me. I had no idea that this game was ported to the Saturn. The art style for the anime intro looks familiar, but I can't place it.

On a side note, the first Microsoft sidewinder controller allowed you to daisy chain controllers for PC games. When me and my friends discovered this we all got one and used them to play 4 player arcade games. Brilliant controller as well and the daisy chaining was genius particularly for PC games.

Whoa, that was awesome! I definitely would have love to have some SideWinders back in the day.
