Technically Kyatsu Ninden Teyandee, this is a super easy but really fun platformer based on the cartoon TV property. It's got a really clever "multiple character" vibe going on, similar to Popful Mail and other such platformers. Plus, there's a guitar playing squid! www.hardcoregaming101.net/samuraicats/samcats.htm

LOVED this show when I was younger. I haven't seen it in years however. I definitely need to play this game. Thanks for bringing this to light Sketcz!
Also, its a crime that Capcom didn't (or couldn't) put anyone from Samurai Pizza Cats into Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Yeah, the show was great, even if they changed a lot of stuff between the JP and US releases. Just cute, wacky fun. The Paul Lind impression in the theme song was great, too.

Also, I thought that The Big Cheese's Lynd-like voice was amusing (since Lynd voiced Templeton the Rat in the animated Charlotte's Web).
My favorite was the Nuclear Potato episode, barring the "USA Pizza Cats" episode that didn't get aired here in the US (along with about 1/4 of the other episodes). I'd fucking kill for even a digital download-only collection of that show.

This entire article brought back fond memories of my youth, especially the bit about Lucille's tendency to fire missiles. Back when other anime were still using giant mallets, only Pizza Cats dared to introduce heavy ordinance. =P

Actually, we're apparently getting DVD sets soon from Discotek Media! www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=383673174995116&set=a.196378827057886.55668.147168055312297&type=1&theaterI'm quite looking forward to it, myself. I loved this show SO MUCH as a kid! Also, I've played the Famicom game via emulation, and can vouch for the fact that it's super-duper fun. Definitely a poster child for a well-made licensed game. -Tom

As an aside (having just read the article):
I'm not actually sure that's the reason for the lack of kanji. In point of fact, well over half the Famicom's game library features little to no kanji due to a combination of space constraints and an inability to draw more complex kanji in such low resolution. Even titles like The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Labyrinth are kana-only when played in Japanese. Some games, bizarrely, are even katakana-only, perhaps due to the comparative ease with which katakana can be displayed in low-res pixels (thanks to its overall more squared-off lettering).
This trend even continued well into the Super Famicom and PlayStation era, with a lot of more old-school and classic-styled games retaining a hiragana-only design for tradition's sake (like one of my favorite obscure PS1 RPGs, "PAL: Legend of the Holy Dog").

Holy crap, thanks for the heads up Wyrdwad!
Discotek is pretty damn awesome across the board for picking up stuff like this; I can't wait for their Lupin III Season 1 release either. Space Adventure Cobra seems like something tailor made for them; dare to dream...

Thanks for the info Wyrdwad - that's a good point, regarding the hardware limitations. Perhaps I should reword that paragraph and add a link regarding the re-release of the show too.
I got the series on bootleg, and the Potato episode was hilarious. I don't know what the Japanese original was about, but given you never saw said potato, it might have all been made up.

The Japanese name of the Famicom game is given as Kyatsu Ninden Teyandee, while it should be Kyattou Ninden Teyandee (or Kyattô Ninden Teyandee).
Also, in the second paragraph of the article it says While the use of katakana here sure is unusual, the oddity doesn't end there, since the final "to" (or rather tou/tô) syllable actually IS a kanji, meaning something like club, party, association. Might be worth extending that sentence in the article to cover this.

PAL: Legend of the Holy Dog Sorry for being off topic, but I could find no information about this on the net. Could you perhaps supply the original Japanese name ?
