That's one more for both Suikoden and the WB games. It's neck-and-neck, but will it stay that way for all of tomorrow? We shall see!
Also, it was indeed originally Dragon's Curse for the TG16 that was on the WB double bill, but I decided to list its SMS incarnation instead so I could put games under the SMS mark. Less messy to organize that way. There is literally no difference in how the game plays on either the SMS or TG16, it's just that the latter has enhanced graphics and sound. But no matter which version you pick, you're in for a great game.

I'm putting in my vote for the Wonder Boy double bill! Talking about this series' convoluted family tree should make for great podcast material.

Especially since there's a fair bit of inter-console politics involved in them

That's one more vote for Wonder Boy, which currently puts it in the lead by a nose! A little less than seven hours to go, so cast your vote if you haven't yet!

The polls are closed! The Wonder Boy games win!Honestly, I wasn't expecting this result, but I'm quite pleased. As the first double bill representing two games from an awesome series, this should be fun for everyone. My only worry is that they may be a bit short compared to previous games we've done. Ergo, if you finish early, I encourage you to check out other games in the series, including the very first Wonder Boy (whom you likely know better as Adventure Island), Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and Monster World IV. Considering the series' completely baffling nomenclature, I'll post Kurt's article to get you started: www.hardcoregaming101.net/wonderboy/wonderboy.htmAnd with that, happy gaming all!

Can't guarantee I'll get looking at this but I will attempt to at some stage! Is the scrolling horribly choppy on the PC Engine version?

Should do Monster World 4 whenever the English translation comes out.

I just grabbed the TG16 version for the VC. (edit... I kinda jumped straight to WB3, since I never played that one, should have probably mentioned that)
(a bit of a tangent, but man, the shop channel has really gone downhill... the release lineup and schedule is one thing, but the channel struggles to even work. The only other time I've had this much trouble downloading something is when everyone was the day Rondo of Blood came out)
Aaaaanyway, I don't know if I just sequence broke or not, so I'll just go ahead and ask, is there a way to get across those rivers of lava without sustaining ridiculous amounts of damage? I got across after just turning into the fish man, and just barely scraped by after burning through several potions. It seemed like the only path forward at the time.
It's pretty smooth.

In the shop right before the lava pools you have to swim in, you can buy Dragon Armor. Equip it and you are immune to lava.

IGN apparently has manual scans for Monster Land located here. But turns out the links to the full size images are dead. Which is a shame since I can't find another copy of the US manual. So here's a link to the EU manual. Which was from Sega8bit. My personal favourite quote from the EU manual is "Like in real life, everybody's 'sands of time' is limited.". Apparently Wonder Boy has a degenerative disease for which the only cure is hour glasses (or booze, I guess that's sort of realistic). There's also an ancient typo on page 36, I swear no one bothered to proof read manuals back then. For Dragon Trap I haven't been able to find a Sega Master system version. But for some stupid reason someone has painstakingly uploaded the TG16 manual. *note these links will only be available until the end of GC9X's game month*

One of the powers of the initial dragon form is that he can survive in lava, even without the dragon armor. How does the order go? Dragon - > Mouse - > Fish - > Lion - > Bird, right?

I honestly don't remember buying the dragon armor, but it was in my inventory at the time. Either way, I just kind of looked at it's stats, and they were lower than the armor I had on, so I didn't bother equipping it...
whoops.
