For years, the challengers have waited. Practicing against one AI opponent after the other, learning new moves, biding their time for a true test of their skills.
It is the 90's, and that time is now.
Get ready for the HG101 Beatdown X-Treme. Using the power of the MAMEHub engine, put your skills to the test against HG101's members. Go head to head against your foes in two different games. Keep your mind sharp and your reflexes sharper, and you might survive.
The tournament will begin on June 17th. Download the MAMEHub program from www.mamehub.info and set it up. You may have to download the games we'll play, but there's plenty of places to do that. If you have any questions or problems getting things set up, feel free to ask!
Here's how the tournament works: You'll all vote for two games, one fighting game, and one competitive non-fighter. The first round is the fighting game, which begins on June 17th. The winners will move onto the second round, starting June 24th, where they'll play the non-fighter. The winner of that round wins the tournament!
But what games will we be playing? That's up for you to decide! We ran a super-secret list of games, carefully chosen for MAXIMUM EXCITEMENT, through our secret randomizer. Each month, we'll select three fighting games, and three non-fighters. Vote for the ones you want to play!
Our fighting games this month are:
Ring Of Destruction
Take the fight from the streets to the ring. Take your pick from 14 wrestlers, including the mayor of Earth, Mike Haggar himself. Slam, punch, and piledrive your foes to submission in this cross of wrestling excitement and traditional fighting game mechanics!
Mortal Kombat 2
The sequel to the original gorefest, Mortal Kombat II might not be the most technical game there is, but there's still plenty of skill involved. Select from 12 deadly warriors and overpower your opponents. Execute your opponents with the hidden 'Fatality' moves for extra bragging rights!
Asura Buster: Eternal Warriors
12 fighters have gathered across the kingdom for a deadly battle. Will you choose Goat, whose mighty mace crushes all foes before him, the lithe and deadly Chen Mao and her martial arts skills, or another warrior? This game, not well known by many, has the speed of Darkstalkers, and the weapon combat of Samurai Showdown.
Arch Rivals
Basketball's never been so brutal. You're on the court with just you and your buddy, trying to score before your opponents can get the net first. Other guy's got the ball? No problem! Punch his face in, steal it for yourself, and break the backboard with a styling slam dunk!
Pac-Attack
The marketability of Pac-Man meets the hecticness of Tetris! Try to build lines as quick as you can, and if too many ghosts start to pile up on your board, send in Pac-Man to clear a few of them out of your way! But watch out for your opponent, because he sure won't make things easy for you!
Biker Mice From Mars
Based on the very original cartoon, Konami's Biker Mice From Mars is just as fresh and new as the action-packed thrillride it was inspired by! Take control of one of the different characters, and race your opponent through the course to the checkered line! Now Snickers-Free.
Voting has ended! Our winners are Ring of Destruction and Arch Rivals!
If this works out, we might do this as monthly tournament. If it works out really well, we might have BIG PRIZES... but that all depends on your participation!
Get to practicing, either through MAMEHub, or with yourself. Here's a movelist.
Before you take a look at that, though, here's some basic gameplay help for Ring of Destruction:
- It's a five button game. You have two punches, two kicks, and one dedicated grapple button.
- You do have 'super' throws, and you can do these at any time. However, you must input the motion RIGHT after you grab somebody.
- You can perform a running grapple with any character by hitting QCF+Grapple.
- Getting hit a lot will activate a 'rage mode', where you turn red and do more damage.
And here's some tips for Arch Rivals:
- There's two buttons, Shoot and Pass.
- If your teammate has the ball, hit the Shoot button to order them to shoot, or hit Pass to tell them to give it to you.
- If you DON'T have the ball, hold Pass to pull your fist back, and release to punch opponents. If they have the ball when you punch them, they'll drop it. You can do this as much as you want.
The tournament for Ring of Destruction begins on June 17th, with the Arch Rivals tournament starting on June 24th. Until then, here's a guide on how to get MameHUB working.
1. (Optional) Forward port 5805, both TCP and UDP. You don't HAVE to do this, but at least ONE player has to have their ports forwarded, so you might as well do it if you can.
2. Get MAMEHUB and put it somewhere. You're going to want version 0.8.
3. Find the roms for Ring of Destruction and Arch Rivals. I can't tell you where exactly you can find it, but I will tell you you're going to want somewhere that offers MAME 0.144 roms. I forget the exact versions you want, but they're both the ones with the biggest file size.
4. Put the zip file for RoD and Arch Rivals in MAMEHub's ROM folder. Don't extract them.
5. Start MAMEHub, make an account, and log in.
6. Once you're in, select Audit Games from the Options list and make sure your games show up in your list.
7. If you're hosting a game, double click it in your game list. If you're joining a game (make sure it's not occupied first), double click it in the list of online users.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or Snarboo for help.
