This looks like a cross between Monster Land, The Dragon's Trap and Monster World; i.e. AWESOME.

Looking good, although a tad too clean.

I like it, the art style seems very modern cartoon. I also noticed they kept the Wonder Boy branding.

store.steampowered.com/app/523810/Wonder Boy Returns looks very cheaply made and, according to the only negative user review so far, it is, between bugs and iffy physics. It seems we are at the levels of the awful Prehistorik remake/remix. One has to wonder if, within the DT remake (I missed it, it looks great!) and Monster Boy, someone didn't think to make a quick cash-in on the license.

I bought it last night and played for about 10 minutes before bed. It's about as bad as it looks. Really, I don't think the art style is that bad, but it has that same issue of a lot of old remakes in that it doesn't add any animation frames so it looks really cheap. Plus, even discounting that, the movement even for jumping is jerky, and some of the enemies look shockingly poor, like the jumping frog looks like it came out of a Tiger LCD game or something. The controls are pretty slippery but it's been awhile since I played the original Wonder Boy so I'd have to boot up MAME to compare. It absolutely freaks out with my Xbone Controller so I had to play with the keyboard. Also, all of the levels and even the ending cinema are unlocked from the beginning, which is really strange.

Does arcade WB1 have any of the hidden bonus levels in the SMS version? I can't seem to find any of them in the spots they would be in.
A level select would at least make collecting the dolls less frustrating if you can jump back and forth between levels, but I probably won't play WB Returns.
