One of the first articles on the site, Turrican has now been updated by derboo. Seeing how the original article was before the forum creation, here is a new thread for the series. hardcoregaming101.net/turrican/turrican.htm

Some little errors I spotted.
"now-famous Factor 5" at the beginning, but the company is no more. Beginning of the article: "seperated ionto seperate stages". Beginning of Turrican 3: "But others didn't weren't ready". Also "hommages" some paragraphs later.
The big Terminator in Mega Turrican / T3 may be a reference to Contra 3, which has a similar boss. Also the article may point out that the Amiga version has also a smaller portion of visible screen - it has a solid status bar on the bottom, while on the Genesis the indicators are superimposed to the screen and, with the exception of lives, all on the top.
The original article was one of the first I read whne I discovered HG101. Turrican is a series I really like but I never managed to really get into for one reason or another (also because I never, ever manage to get into Amiga emulation); in fact, the SNES games are the only ones I completed. Back then, the existence of an exclusive NES episode was a surprise to learn. Good job mentioning the unofficial games too - Hurrican was in development for years (I still have a demo from 2002 somewhere) and delayed many times but the end result was really worth the wait. If you feel like adding it as a curiosity to mention, there is a Turrican 32K, a little programming excercise.

Thanks for posting these, Gilder. I'm currently migrating to a new computer, I'll correct the typos when I'm done.

So, Trenz has regained the rights to Turrican? I wonder if he's up to the times however - it's not the fact Denaris Entertainment hasn't been able to make something worthwile so far, even before he founded it, he hasn't done anything worthwile since Rendering Ranger (by the way: for one who said he felt better on 8 bit systems, he did a damn good programming job with the SNES), and the few screenshots of the Katakis 2 project were very disappointing. But who knows, with a good Kickstarter and no publisher bounds...

Nice revamp derboo. However, I'm still around - next time one of my writings is considered ready for an overall update, get in touch - I might want to handle it by myself. Turrican was my first contribution to HG101 iirc - must have been in 2004 or 2005. I'm glad to see much of the original writing and evaluation on each games was retained in your version. Also, I'd take the chance to ask you if you could fix something I omitted when I wrote the piece: regarding NES Super Turrican: "Thankfully, the final boss this time isn't that not-so-charismatic MORGUL, but The Machine himself, in what is probably his better-looking incarnation." could you add "(although the sprite is shamelessly ripped off from Aldynes!)" Thanks!

I didn't expect that, since most of them were from a long time ago. I did my best to keep it true to the original, mostly adding more thorough descriptions of the different ports and all the fan games. regarding NES Super Turrican: "Thankfully, the final boss this time isn't that not-so-charismatic MORGUL, but The Machine himself, in what is probably his better-looking incarnation." could you add "(although the sprite is shamelessly ripped off from Aldynes!)" Cool, I'll have a go through Aldynes to try and grab comparison screenshots, then add that to the article.

Thanks a bunch for that! I did my best to keep it true to the original It shows! Kudos to that! I mostly agree with all your additions, even if I think that the GB port by CodeMonkeys isn't really the most decent of the bunch - the Genesis one is the best of the three, but I got what you meant: that on GB they did some effort to actually achieve something (to squeeze everything inside the tiny cart), while on the Genesis there is no doubt that they could have achieved much more. Other than that - let's hope that Manfred Trenz is really gearing up for a comeback!

Oh, that was easy: The sprite in question is already the second boss in Aldynes. The comparison is in now.

Looks like all Turricans and a boatload of other Amiga titles were made available on the Blackberry store earlier this year. appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/vendor/21741/?lang=enIt was possible to emulate the older Java Based BB stuff using the free developer emulators, dunno about the newer models from the playbook on. I'm guessing these are just emulated Amiga versions anyway.

If anyone remembers, Factor 5 announced they wanted to release the uncut 6mbit version of Super Turrican (SNES) as a "Director's Cut" release on Wii Virtual Console, after the retail version was already released, but it never happened. I wonder why. Was it because they closed, or did Nintendo just not want the same console version being released twice, effectively.
