I recently bought a slim model Korean PS3 and I looked everywhere to find the PS1 region but had no luck.
PS1 games are region locked (PAL, US, JP), but I am no expert on the PS1 regions of Asian countries outside of Japan. So, my question is, what region is the PS1 coding in a Korean PS3?

It should say on the backside of the PS3, on the label where the copyright information is. I'm going to guess it's NTSC-J?

To my understanding PS1 games are emulated, so you don't need to worry about PAL/NTSC/NTSC-J. I've an Euro PS3 but almost all my PS1/PS2 games I bought on PSN come from the US PSN and are NTSC. There are no constraints that I know of.

I think he's talking about games on disc, not PSN. Remember, while only launch model PS3s play PS2 games on disc, *every* PS3 plays PS1 games on disc, without exception. PSN games depend on the PSN region your currently logged-in user is set to, and you can create users for pretty much every region, so yeah, for digital games, it's not a problem. For physical discs, though, I think Korea is region 3, isn't it? EDIT: Assuming PS1 region codes follow the same pattern as DVD region codes, which I believe they do, then yes, South Korea is region 3: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code-Tom

I don't think they do follow the same regions as DVDs.

Considering Asian versions of PS1 games are essentially identical to Japan versions, I would guess that Korean games are the same. I mean, I've never heard of Korea having their own specific versions of that system's games. Could be wrong, but that seems most likely.

I always wondered if hacking the PS3 would enable one to play PSX games from all regions and/or burned PSX discs. I have no clue about what PS3 CFWs can do and what not. Anyone who knows more about this? This Thread seems somehow fitting for this question

Due to my ineptitude, I failed to think about checking the system manual. It is not in English for the most part , but one page clearly identities the PS1 region is NTSC-J. So, it plays Japanese games, which makes sense because I do not think Korea had an Asian specific model of the Playstation in the 90s. Also, to the question above, this may help with playing other region PS2 games on CFW... www.ehow.com/how_7779357_remove-lock-ps2-games-ps3.htmlI am not so sure about original Playstation games.

Assuming you have a Japanese PSN account, you can download whatever you want and all of that content will subsequently run just fine on your US our PAL account. The same goes for Xbox Live. I haven't actually bought anything on the Japanese PSN store, but I've followed Mainichi Issho (which is free) since day 1. I can't read any Japanese, but I have fun watching the skits anyways. Some, like the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy VII skits, make sense even without knowing the language as long as you're familiar with the franchise. I assume I'm 1 of probably under 300 US PS3 accounts to have all the trophies in Mainichi Issho (which are now unobtainable since a big update changed the program entirely). I didn't really know I was even earning them; it simply involved watching specific numbers of skits. I did however purchase a couple Japanese Xbox Live games. I got Puyo Pop Fever on the Xbox Originals line, and I got Castlevania SotN, since I'm a huge fan. I probably don't need to go into how SotN is different in its Japanese version; most of you on HG101 probably already know the differences. So to reiterate, digital content on PSN and Xbox Live will work on any region's account so long as that particular content's license is tied to that particular console (the original console it is downloaded on).

Well, what I'm saying is that in order to download the content TO your console, you have to log into the appropriate region's PSN store. And to do that, you need to log into your console as a user who's associated with that PSN account (or log into your console as a new user and create a new J-PSN account or something).
Once it's on your system, you can play it with any user -- but you can't connect to Japan's PSN from the same PS3 user that connects to the North American PSN.

Anyone who knows more about this? Based on what I saw of the PS3 hacking, didn't they acquire the "signing keys" for PS1, PS2 and PS3 discs? Effectively meaning that it's possible now to burn PS1 games, with the retail signature, and have said CDR work on any system, even if unmodded? I raised this forums at the time but nobody cared, because all the discussion was about OMG TEH PS3 IZ H@XX0R! Those Euro guys on that panel were saying they'd managed to extract it from the PS3's coding, didn't they? I didn't bother looking into, but I'd be really interested in knowing what happened with that. Imagine being able to burn any PS1 game ever, and have it work on any system?
