I've been looking for this game for years. I've heard bits of the soundtrack, and Naoki Kodaka was a god of NES music, that he was.

I think the reason Sunsoft lost the Terminator license was because Carolco/Tristar, who had just purchased the rights to the title and all of its other assets from Hemdale/Orion, was all set to work on a sequel, and wanted more attention to be focused on that.

You mentioned Castlevania Adventure, so I mentioned SMB. Both are sidescrollers, both have boss battles and both lose powerups when hit.

I first heard about this game from The Happy Video Game Nerd. Although he was wrong about the game being called R.A.F. World to Europeans, and also wrong about LJN being the company who developed T2 for the NES.
It was the second game he reviewed (after Metal Storm)

The music in this game still blows my mind. Kodaka and Hara really figured out how to use the NES hardware better than any other company (including Konami, hence why Castlevania III sounds so compromised in its American incarnation). The Sunsoft "sound" was born with this and Fester's Quest IMHO.

Using the triangle and noise channels for percussion was surprising genius. Absolutely brilliant in its way. (Shame there doesn't seem to be a tracker that lets the DPCM channel be used like the similar channel in the GB hardware, that'd be lovely.)

Sunsoft's real audio trademark, though I can't explain it in the technical sense (we'll leave that for muteKi), was their 'slap bass' sound. The one curious thing about it was that it always had to finish its process even when a game was paused (at least, it seemed that way in Battle Formula/Super Spy Hunter), never cutting off in the middle of a bass note.
This is all opinion, so feel free to bash and mock as you like.

HVGN is a nice bloke if you ignore the occasional mistake. He also made people think Nightshade got made by ULTRA, despite they are only the shell group Konami made to publish their games to go around the limits Nintendo imposed in companies being only allowed to release a certain amount each year. It seemed like for a while they were going to make an attempt to actually push it as a vanity marque for 'non-traditional' fare they weren't comfortable putting the Konami name on (the aforementioned Nightshade, Silent Service, Defender of the Crown, Skate or Die, etc.), much like Eidos did in the PS2 days with their "Fresh" marque, or Working Designs with Spaz.
