Even if you'd never mentioned that Data East was the one that developed this, I would have immediately thought "Has to be them."
One minor grammatical thing I (think I) noticed: in Christopher's description, I THINK the name of the wrestling move you refer to is "DDT", not "DTD". Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Sometimes I forget how bloody older games can get. It's amazing how this game slipped through the cracks when Mortal Kombat was still fresh in arcades. It looks like a lot of fun and the sprite work is impressive.

Another minor regional change is that the last hit of Christopher's combo involves him blastic energy out of an object at the enemies: in the US version, it's a crystal ball while in the Japanese one it's a far more sensible crucifix.
You don't have to play the game in Japanese to get the red gore, you can turn it on from the BIOS options although you'll still be missing all the other stuff.
Finally, there's also some team-up moves as demonstrated in the flyer and super moves you can pull off at low health by charging up, inputting a fighter-style command and releasing.
