Been messing around with this a little bit more. Slowly figuring out a way to get a screenshot column in place in a way that totally doesn't mess up the layout. Here's a test case: www.hardcoregaming101.net/eswat/I don't think there's anyway to not use thumbnails on the left side...but I think it looks OK. For some reason though, it doesn't activate the lightbox gallery like the ones in the body, which would be beneficial. I think the main body also need to be made a little bigger because they end up being smushed next to each other if the image is too big or resolution is too low.

This looks like a smart compromise. Good work!

Another test: www.hardcoregaming101.net/harvester/I also got the tag engine sorta working right! Except it'll return 404s for cases where we don't have custom pages made. So, we'll either have to add some more or hide those as tags. Please, again, let me know what you guys think of this. Posts like "I don't like it" and "this spells the end of the internet 2017" are fundamentally useless to me, but I need your feedback to determine whether this change in format is something we should implement going forward.

Griff and other holdouts over the new style: when you continually restate how much you hate the new design and how you can't understand why we can't have the old one, you're essentially saying you do not care about how much more effort is required to post content through that method. It's like the production of video games themselves - you have no idea what's required to get it in your hands, so long as you're able to enjoy it the way you want to. The staff have repeatedly said that there are things they don't like about the new design, along with acknowledging fair criticisms about its flaws. However, when people continue to harp on how "bad" the new style is and how they don't understand why we can't go back, it comes across as petulant. None of you had to build articles for the site with the old method. You don't understand how difficult it was. Please let go of your personal attachments and accept that something had to be done to make it easier to post new content. It isn't a holy mission to screw over everyone's ability to enjoy the site. I understand the old site was a pain in the ass to work with, what I'm wondering is, would there have been a way to rework the nuts and bolts behind it rather than throw it all out and start with something totally new? I don't know anything about web design though so I apologize if I've been talking out of my ass a bit, if I did I would offer to help. At the very least though I will maintain that an archive of the old site should be kept.

Again, this is a good middle ground between the old and new styles. Hopefully it's not too much additional work for you?

Okay I'm just kidding. Okay I'm not but still. Having the screenshots actually exist at all anywhere is an extremely good change, because something very important about hg101 was that it had lots of screenshots of some games that had almost none anywhere else on the internet (46 Okunen and Tao: The Way come to mind). The asynchronous scrolling that starts randomly is bad but at this point the fact that the screenshots aren't going to be lost to time and/or the internet archive is pretty big for me on its own.

That Tag column is creating an empty space when viewed on a phone. I think it's better to remove it and put the tags under the title in a box if possible. The right global column gets pushed down to the bottom on the mobile site, it takes up too much space on the desktop site. Can you: a) Cut it down to half its width? b) Move it to the bottom? c) Get rid of it for all article pages? If you must embed the Twitter widget, can you at least make it scrollable? Having it just stuck on the latest tweet is kind of pointless if you ask me. Whatever it is you did to make the multiple covers appear together as 3x2 grid, can you do it in the article to show the screenshots in a 2x2 grid between paragraphs? I think that's currently the best option to have as many screenshots as possible in the main body of the article.

The asynchronous scrolling that starts randomly is bad but at this point the fact that the screenshots aren't going to be lost to time and/or the internet archive is pretty big for me on its own. It's actually not random, it's determined by how many screens are attached and how long the article is. That way, the left sidebar is never blank. I'm not a fan of the way it lags slightly when you scroll down though. Conversely, if the article is too short and there are too many screens, then they'll display all of them while the content is blank. But that's an ok tradeoff. It was always the intention to keep all of the screens - for the converted articles, they're all already uploaded - it was just a matter of figuring out where to stick them.

That would be a good reason as to why it would STOP, but it's hard to tell that when it determines when it starts.

Here's a test case: www.hardcoregaming101.net/eswat/It's neat, a nice compromise between old and new layout. Speaking of images: since these are not basic HTML pages, whenever one clicks on an image it opens a gallery instead of showing just that one image, and so images with a high resolution are shown all grainy and stuff because they aren't in full screen. I know that not much can be done about it, was just saying. Also you can't make a certain image load while clicking on a different one, so some articles (such as the Game Tengoku one with the character portraits) no longer work as intended.

When I try to attach a pic directly to a forum post, I get this error message:
Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded.
The file itself is just 52kb, so it shouldn't have to do with the limit for single files.

The whole forum storage is full and I'm not sure how to delete things at the moment. I'll look into pruning some old stuff.

I'm not sure where to put this so I'll stick it here. I'm glad to see the old HG101 site get archived as I read it daily still. Unfortunately it seems to have disappeared in the last few days. HG101 has been a part of my life for nearly ten years so this is a bit scary. Anybody know what's going on?
