It's interesting that they're going for a sequel set in the same world this time. I wonder what their plan is to maintain the enigmatic atmosphere the series is known for now that everyone has a firm grasp on the world already?
Apparently this time they're planning a PC version as well (as opposed to Dark Souls where they never expected to make a PC version and only did so due to fan requests), so the PC port should be much better this time!
Great news, I can't wait for more information about this game!

And like in Demon Souls, we really only get to know a single country in the whole world.

So excited. Even if it's not the massive leap in quality over Dark Souls that Dark Souls was over Demon's Souls, as long as they stay their current course then this could only mean good things. Really hate Demon's Souls, really love Dark Souls.

And like in Demon Souls, we really only get to know a single country in the whole world. No, the link contains the quote "an unfamiliar world" but also contains quotes stating the game is "a new chapter in the Dark Souls saga," which will "expand the scope of the world." That strongly implies a direct sequel. Most likely "unfamiliar world" simply refers to the game taking place in a different region of the Dark Souls world. I'm not saying that making it seem mysterious and interesting again is impossible, but given that Dark Souls was all about humans-turned-undead killing the deities of their own creation myth, I'm wondering how From can possibly top that.

The title of the article also says a new world.
Of course, also says a new hero, but that was a given considering the series.

I wish these games were even slightly appealing to me so I could join in the fun. The opening FMV from Demon's Souls was at least pretty cool...

What's not appealing about it?

What's not appealing about it? To be fair, I haven't tried Dark Souls. But I've tried to get into Demon's Souls a couple of times and I just can't seem to squeeze even the smallest bit of fun out of it. The whole game just leaves me confused and vaguely angry. The environments are ugly, the controls are slow and clunky, the game barely explain anything about what's going on, and it's not very forgiving when you're just trying to figure out hos stuff works. I got as far as beating the first boss last time, couldn't really figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing next, and just gave up on it. I have thought about going back and starting as a Royal, because I've heard that's a better way to go at the beginning. But frankly, I have a lot of other games to play that I know I'll enjoy, and it's hard to get too excited about going back to one I know has left me cold in the past. The fact that everyone else seems to think it's the best thing ever is the only reason I occasionally consider it.

The only thing Demons has going for it is it being more hardcore and having a much darker setting.

Demon have more unique bosses and a lot more of freedom, you could access to almost any place once you beaten the first area.
But yes, Dark is an improvement in every other area. And the restricted area access is somehow a blessing since you can't access early to some very powerful equipment like you could in DmS and makes the world more coherent with all of it jointed instead of being a mega manĀ“s boss area pick.

I hated Demon's Souls. I tried so hard to enjoy it after so many months of hype from people that had imported it, but after six hours I threw in the towel because I was just not having fun. As awesome as the combat system was and as rich as its environment and setting were, I fucking hated the structure of the levels, the restrictions on saving, the network setup, and the entire exp/monetary systems.
For that reason, I didn't finally try Dark Souls until about two months ago (or so), and even then I only did it because I was testing out my capture setup on my 360 (Dark Souls was cheap and I wanted some HDMI shots of the console version to compare against the stock PC version for a better apples:apples shootout). But it sucked me in. It sucked me in so god damn hard.
It's still difficult, but the encounters are more intelligently structured, the world is more thoughtfully designed, the firelink shrine system is really, really well paced out, and the user interface got such a major overhaul that the omission of a pause in offline mode no longer feels like a hindrance. It feels natural. organic. it's awesome.
The game is fantastic and I highly recommend it. I would not say the same for Demon's Souls. I would only recommend Demon's Souls for someone that finished Dark Souls and wanted to see its direct predecessor, but even then I'd be more likely to recommend something like King's Field IV or maybe Shadow Tower Abyss.
King's Field IV is another one of those games that really surprised the hell out of me, though to be honest I was playing it in PCSX2 with the benefit of save states (I can quit and resume whenever I want! Fuck yea! 2012 kicks ass!)
