Project No. 3. Great, obscure cult classic though.

Will Rock.
I remember posting on /v/ once a thread that simply said "will Will Rock rock?"

Two Crude Dudes. The title sounds very 80's. I prefer the original title of "Crude Buster."
Totally Rad. Also very 1980's, of the moment. And really says nothing about the game, except for the heavy California valley boy/girl makeover it got.

Special Cybernetic Attack Team or... well... SCAT. Wasn't Final Mission good enough for US release? It seems Natsume tried too hard to be cool (because acronyms are cool, 'rite?) and they came up with such a wrong title in the end.
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Thank you Captain Obvious! You saved the world again!
Journey to Silius. I know [rʌf] WORLD could sound weird in overseas markets, but is there any journey here? You are already on the titular space colony blowing up robots and stuff, so what's the point?
Mad City. The Japanese title of The Adventures of Bayou Billy also sounds kinda random. I don't recall this game taking place entirely in city. And speaking of which, why this city would be mad? It's Japan anyway, they're weird.
Shaq Fu. Now this is a classic. Let's mix famous name in basketball with "Kung Fu", guys! This will be awesome! It wasn't, just as the game itself.

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Thank you Captain Obvious! You saved the world again! Not sure what's wrong there, "Solid" is the title Snake earned when he defeated Big Boss, he was just "Snake" in the original Metal Gear, so Metal Gear 2 was the debut of the name "Solid Snake" hence it's in the title.

The NES manual refers to him as Solid Snake, as he is called such in the game (this also applies to European MSX version). So yeah, he's Solid Snake all along.

If that's true, where did I get my idea from? I know I heard that somewhere. But the American release came out a year after the MSX one, it's possible Kojima had already come up with the name since he was probably working on 2 at the time, having only played the MSX version of Metal Gear I'm almost positive he's only called Snake. You really can't trust the American manuals of the Konami games of the era, they said that Contra was set in the then present day instead of the future for example.

Indie devs are the unrivaled champions these days, when it comes to bad naming. We've got silly crap like: A Hole New World, Until I Have You, Wizard of Legend, Invisigun Heroes, Humans Must Answer, Slice Dice & Rice and so on all over the place now.

I'll always defend the Metal Gear subtitles. Reading them off sounds like your are browsing for gay porn, and that is glorious.

Oh, there's another one I forgot to mention - Silent Bomber for the PSX. It's so contradictory if you ask me.

It's Japan anyway, they're weird. Ah, not sure if I mentioned it in this topic previously, but if not, this reminds me: the Japanese title of "Pandemonium"? "Magical Hoppers." Considering that "hopper" is slang for "toilet" where I'm from, I found this title quite unfortunate indeed! -Tom

I remember having to stock that game on the shelves, looking at the cover, and thinking that exact thing. "Silent Bomber?! What kind of oxymoron title...."

Speaking of games involving blowing stuff up, the prototype of what would become later Bomberman, is called Eric and the Floaters (released for the MSX and ZX Spectrum). Another unfortunate title similar to Special Cybernetic Attack Team mentioned above.
