Recent Crying is not Enough. Dunno, it's just too "biased". Or "Procedurally Limited".

Not the best name for a caveman themed game.

Not the best name for a caveman themed game. Does it count if it's a bootleg? Of a game named "Goindol" to be precise.

Watching E3 coverage and laughing at the name Anthem. Anthem makes me think of health insurance and NFL protests, not a sci-fi shooter.

Why is that a bad name? It has action pertaining to elevators.

Why is that a bad name? It has action pertaining to elevators. We don't cast such limited potency actors.

Yeah, Elevator Action does sound like a porno when you think about it. Along the same lines, there's the low-budget FPS Red Ocean, and it's protaganist "Jack Hard".

Has this thread really existed this long without anyone mentioning the badass Compile-developed fighting robots game for MSX called "Girly Block"? Because I feel like that definitely belongs in this thread. Note that despite the name, there really aren't any female characters in the game. Like, at all, as far as I can tell. I feel like the MSX is full of games with pretty awful (yet also extremely charming) names. Apologies if I've already mentioned it here, but if not, "A Life M36 Planet: Motherbrain has been aliving" should definitely get a VERY NOTABLE MENTION in this topic. As should "Star Virgin," which is a game about an ordinary girl who dons a sentai-like suit and gains superpowers to take down kaiju and giant robots and such. Technically, I guess this doesn't really count for this topic, as it's based on a movie -- but the thing is, there's also an unrelated porn that bears the EXACT SAME NAME, and the porn is the first thing that comes up in searches, so yeah... not a good look for this game! -Tom

There’s also a hentai game for the msx called Girl Control. If anyone wants a laugh, look at the pc-98 game roster. The vast majority of the games sound like child porn.

These are all beautiful. There’s also a hentai game for the msx called Girl Control. I've actually bid on that game a few times on eBay, but surprisingly, it's pretty highly in demand! Was never able to win it. Sad, as the art's really nice, and it looks to be a fairly decent shmup, hentai or no. I mean, they... probably are. '80s and early '90s Japanese hentai was definitely rather loli-heavy, especially on the microcomputers at the time -- they could get away with a lot more in computer games due to a general lack of regulation, particularly on the PC-88 and PC-98 (you didn't see as much of that on the MSX due to its more commercialized nature). -Tom

There was no regulation. NEC and early Fujitsu micros were the final frontier of degenerate entertainment in video game form. Personally, I love this stuff, mostly because I think it’s hilarious. Who came up with this stuff? 177? Macadam? Even the horror games are particularly creepy. Look at Produce for the pc-88/fm-7. Szepanic interviewed the dB soft guys and I was shocked to discover they were seemingly normal people with a full set of teeth.
