What's wrong with the name Devil May Cry? It's snappy, it's memorable, and it's relevant to the content of the game without being overly ornate and ridiculous.

"Devil May Cry"
Maybe I'm misunderstanding its meaning but... may cry? "Or he may not, we'll see about that. Exciting huh?" You know? Or "you may cry now, Devil, go ahead", which is silly considering it's a pretty cheesy action game which doesn't focus on drama.
And those aren't really bad if they're intentional, but I got the feeling it wasn't meant to be humourous.

Also "Soul Fighter," the Dreamcast game that intentionally tried to corner the market on tricking grandma into buying the wrong game.

Resident Evil. Is it Evil that resides in that particular place? Does not really make sense, and I don't find it scary. At least, Biohazard has something at least. Fantasy Zone. Come on Sega! Do your worst so that people are ashamed of playing this game! More rainbows in Fantasy Zone II! (true story). A very daft name.

These games have good names, but are I find them hard to pronounce. ESP Ra. De. no idea "zecks-izz" "guy-noog" "yung rithum" "got zen deener" "eegdra union" [insert shirt advert here] "vvvvvv" Thanks! I already knew how to pronounce some of those (because I got corrected a lot). Yeah, Gaiares did have that cheesy ad with the kid saying "This game smokes!". I'm still not sure on VVVVVV, though. Is it "veeveeveeveeveevee" or some kind of voweless buzzing sound? I always just called it "Spikes". I remembered another bad game name, by the way. Street Fighter Zero Three Double Upper. Some of those sequel/prequel names get ridiculously long. edit: found the Gaiares Ad www.elfshotthefood.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/gaiares-ii.jpg

A large number of these are the result of Japanese with a poor grasp of English trying to come up with names they think sound cool.

...And on a non-Falcom note, and possibly a rather controversial one... I always thought the name "Chrono Trigger" was kind of... not good. See, when I was a kid, I loved swords and sorcery stories, and HATED anything with guns in it. Like, absolutely despised any games that heavily featured gun-toting protagonists. So when Chrono Trigger was announced, my mind immediately gravitated toward the "trigger" part of the title, and I instantly dismissed it as "not interested" because I was like, trigger = gun! Only when I later learned that it was a SquareSoft title, and was NOT about guns, did I finally decide to read up on the game... and needless to say, I'm glad I did! But to this day, I still think the name "Chrono Trigger" is... not as catchy or clever or interesting as other people seem to think it is! Heh, that reminds me of my own little story about getting Chrono Trigger. I first learned of it in Nintendo Power, so I knew from the get-go that it was a Squaresoft RPG and all. But the day I was planning on getting it, back when I was 14, I believe, my mom and I were first visiting my grandma at an assisted living home before heading to Fred Meyer (a West coast grocery store chain with an electronics department, for anyone who doesn't know). As we were leaving, one of the nurses was chatting us up, asking about our plans for the night, and I said was going to buy a video game called Chrono Trigger. To which she replied, "Oh, is that some kind of shooting game?" I explained that it was a role-playing game, of course, but it took the longest time for it to click in my brain why she would assume such a thing, haha. I guess most people must not think very deeply about the titles of games (probably conditioned by all the strangely named games dating back to the earliest of gaming, like Pac-Man and such), so to this day, you and that lady are the only people I've ever come across to make the "trigger = guns" assumption. I guess you must not like Lucca so much, huh? :P I like the title, but probably just because I like the game so much. Anyway, to name my own example, I think the best/worst name of a character in a game is the star of Fiend Hunter on PC Engine, Feed Sluster. I mean, c'mon. His name is FEED SLUSTER. God bless you, Japanese people, god bless you.

It's a really beloved series, but Final Fantasy is a terrible name for a series with so many sequels and spinoffs.
