Mostly to maintain consistency, and also give a look at how the character was visually represented in the game. It's worth it just for the "Lex Luthor stole 40 cakes" reference.

Speaking of consistency, I think we should just push the DC character bios to the bottom along with the other guest characters. Also, why are Shao Kahn, Goro & Kintaro's bios not using their MK9 artwork? And for that matter why not update everything with the MKX artwork? Unfortunately, since those characters weren't playable in MK9, they didn't have full size portraits to use. For your second question, because that would mean updating the artwork for every game those characters appear in. Sorry, but unless the PC port to the next MK game is absolutely flawless, you can consider this article complete.

Big news for owners of the PC version of MKX: support resumes. Mortal Kombat XL will be released a month from now, a new port by a different team (QLoc), and will be a free update for owners of the original version. DLCs that were originally not meant to come on PC, will come now. It's not very clear about the Kombat Pack 1: as far as I understand, if you already own a base version of MKX and only that, you'll get the engine and balance update but will have to purchase KP1 separately. New owners, on the other hand, are going to get MKXL with KP1 already included. They also did an online multiplayer betatest last week and, from a quick look at the Steam forums, it seems the've improved it a lot.
It's probably meant to also build hype for the PC version of Injustice 2 but if it prompted WB Games to fix the previous injustice towards PC players, the better.

I wish they would fix the bugs/deficiencies in the PC version of MK9 first, but that seems unlikely to ever happen.

I'm still angry at WB, but I guess I'll amend the article when the patch hits. I am, however, going to make it clear that it's pretty lousy that not only did it take this long for a patch to come out, but that the port needed one this badly in the first place.

^ Yeah, they even took more than six months after consoles to release XL on PC. I want at least to give the benefit of the doubt, in the sense they may have wanted the new porting team to take their time, I doubt they want another Arkham Knight in their hands. We'll see how it fares this time. I wish they would fix the bugs/deficiencies in the PC version of MK9 first, but that seems unlikely to ever happen. A huge patch for it was released in 2014, after almost a year, but I don't know if it fixed all the problems.
