At least this cartoon gets one thing right: Gaming is one hobby that is not as severly impacted as others by the recent situation. It may even help keeping some people mentally sane.
edit: A less lazy and more empathic cartoonist would've explored why those already screwed by corrupt politicians and CEOs are further left behind during times of crisis, instead of shaming them for seeking refuge in gaming.

Maybe I’m playing COVID-19 wrong but I find this game incredibly boring. I’ve been stuck in an apartment for days now, maybe it’s a bug? I hear the number of players is increasing rapidly though. This is bigger than WoW already. I don’t get it. It's like The Sims or Animal Crossing. You're supposed to make your own fun and set your own goals. Speaking of Animal Crossing. New Horizons is pretty fun so far. I'm surprised by how different it actually feels from New Leaf. Starting with only two neighbors who don't even have a place to live and an island that's largely locked off by a river really feels weird, but because you start off so bare-bones and can customize much more this time around, it's that much more fun to boot the game up each day. Main downside is that it's going to be a major time-sink, and I already got way too many games going on right now. I've decided to just drop Half-Life: Opposing Force and Mega Man X4 since I was just kind of playing them just to play them and they're both kind of boring. Well, to be fair X4 is a little more interesting than X1/2/3 so far. I'm super curious to learn about the sales of ACNH so far. Japan physical launch weekend sales are 1.9 million physical only, and with how much I've seen people talk about this game on twitter I wouldn't be surprised if it will surpass Pokémon SWSH, BotW and perhaps even Mario Odyssey in the long run. Smash and Mario Kart might be a taller order to beat.

Started on the Trials of Mana demo, and I'm enjoying it, though I actually liked Seiken Densetsu 3. The addition of voice-acting and cut-scenes work well. The music is pleasantly updated with crisper sounds. And the actual pacing of fighting is much, much better. What I disliked about the original Seiken Densetsu 3 were how clunky the movements were, with action coming to a complete stop during things like healing spells. And low-budget hilariously, the game retains the endless xerox copies of NPC's in town. And they still left all the shopkeepers doing their odd dance, as they wait for clientele to approach. Looking forward to reliving through the full game.

I just play ACNH for 20 or 30 minutes a day. It's something I find nice for little short bursts, but I'm definitely not the target audience for them in general. In New Leaf, I mostly liked the mayoral elements and my house was the smallest size and never had all that much in it although I did put new stuff in it. I feel a little mixed with this one as the smallness of the island feels at odds with the crafting. I especially don't like the tools breaking and supposedly even the highest quality still breaks. I still don't have the store since it's taking forever for me to get the 30 iron pieces for it. I get something like 1 or 2 a day. X4 is a pretty easy game as X since the helmet upgrade gives unlimited uncharged special weapon use, and both it and the arm upgrade are easy to get; the arm upgrade is practically out in the open. It is harder as Zero though. — Started on the Trials of Mana demo, and I'm enjoying it, though I actually liked Seiken Densetsu 3. The addition of voice-acting and cut-scenes work well. The gangbuster sales of Animal Crossing aren't really that surprising. It's like the 5th best selling GameCube game, 9th best selling DS game, and 7th best selling 3DS game. This franchise does numbers, it just so far mostly got ignored by the larger srs biz gaming conciousness like so many games associated with "for casuals" or "for girls". I still don't have the store since it's taking forever for me to get the 30 iron pieces for it. I get something like 1 or 2 a day. That's quite strange. You should be able to get more than that per day from hitting the stones on your island alone. If you have the 2k Nook Miles, you can also get a ticket to a random island, which will have further hit-able stones on them.
Anyways, having good fun with the game so far. As always, I got immediately obsessed with getting all the fishes and bugs that are currently around ASAP.

Playing Peace Walker. I beat the first Hind and captured it and then it went and got destroyed in the first Outer Ops battle I deployed it in. 100% health too. WTF! 1 armored car can beat a Hind?

Depends on luck and the rank of the mission.

Oh yeah, I also finished two more Dating Sims recently that had English versions: True Love and Welcome to Pia Carrot. What is interesting is the time frame on those games. Usually you go through three years of high school. But both of these - just as Doukyuusei - cover roughly the span of your last year's summer vacation instead. Guess it makes sense, they are all 18+ ones, and while you still have to work to get to the porn, they probably don't want the player to have to work too long for it still (and to make the age of the characters a bit less creepy). They also usually have a bigger cast of characters to win and coupled with the short time frame less to know about. Pia Carrot is still pretty cute, actually, while True Love is Ok but has a decidedly sub-par character design. The later of the two is also an official English release, and I wager a guess that they really raunched up the dialogue to try to make it more exciting, because it really often seems to clash with the game. Props to giving you the option of a gay ending tho!

Nice to see an added epilogue to XBC.
BDII demo and Panzer Dragoon right now!
I am way too excited for more Mr. Driller!
Remake of SW EP1: Racer is interesting. I remember kinda liking it.
When I posted about Shinsekai in the game finish thread, I meant to include that I wished it moved off of being just on Apple Arcade (Apple only requires the mobile exclusive) because it's so amazing and more people should play it. Then exactly two weeks later, it gets a Switch port! $20 is a totally reasonable price for how long it is (10 hours), but that's also 4 months of Apple Arcade.

Interesting that they'll still add ARMS to Smash. I'd think that the window had passed and that the DLC would mostly be new characters or 3rd parties. It's nice to see, though. Maybe Rhythm Heaven can get in next. Not very much looking forward to another Simon/Richter situation to deal with, though. Also interesting that Club House Games is getting a sequel. Here I thought I was one of the few people on earth who even remembers that game. If you liked the mayor stuff the most in NL you should like this one seeing as customizing your island is now expanded to the point where it's more like you own the whole town instead of just a house. I feel the town is also quite a bit larger than in NL but I might be misremembering. I also generally play for a bit each day. A little more today since I was trying to unlock something, but I definitely try not to overdo it. It's kind of weird to see so many people I follow on twitter already have so much stuff less than a week into the game. Part of the fun of AC to me is that there's a reason to play it a bit every day. A month from now I still want to be discovering new stuff. Maybe it differs from tool to tool, but you definitely should be getting more than that on a day. I can probably get at least 10 a day from my island's rocks (I think there are 6 rocks on mine). Tour islands have so far contained plenty of rocks, so you can potentially hit the store's quota of 30 in one day if you just spend one or two tickets. I kind of had the opposite problem today. I got so many iron ores that I didn't have enough stones. Had to collect some miles to be able to afford a ticket. Shouldn't have sold all my remaining stones yesterday I guess. Okay, so they still didn't learn that lesson by the 4th installment. X1/2/3 were so poorly balanced. It was always gonna sell well, but I think this might be the first time it can actually sit along the Marios and Pokémons of the generation, sales-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if it beats Mario Odyssey in the long run. The gaming landscape as well as gaming media have certainly changed too since New Leaf was released, and of course New Leaf itself had a considerable impact on establishing AC to one of Nintendo's main series.

I was definitely having a string of bad luck with iron. Got 9 today from 3 of the 4 rocks I had. I was mainly getting so many stones, an occasional piece of clay and a weirdly large number of rocks that just had bells in them.
Wild World on DS sold almost as well as New Leaf, 11.75m vs. 12.45 (as of 12/31/19). WW is above Mario 64 DS (11.06m) and just below Pokémon HG/SS (12.72m). It's still a few million below D/P and B/W but comfortably above B2/W2. NSMB was huge though at 30.8m and the best selling DS game overall. So, better than a Pokêmon update but not as good as a remake. This more or less applies to NL too. City Folk was back down to around the GC game's numbers despite the Wii's install base. Series just seems to do better when it's portable. It'll be interesting to see where NH ends up falling.
