How in the name of bejaysus is personality black hole lightning ranked so high. In a cast of annoying personalities, the one without one reigns queen.

So I finished Sonic Adventure 2. I didn't enjoy it. Was kind of glad going into the Dark story to be done with the Knuckles levels but Shadow, Robotnik and Rouge play the same as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. It's just a complete mess of a game with cutscenes feeling so disjointed and the story not making any sense what so ever. And then there's the glitches. I did not enjoy the car falling through the floor randomly during a 5 minute awful driving section and having to repeat it. The final stratch is dick move city. The final Shadow level might have been groundbreaking, it's a bit like Mario Galaxy except the gravity doesn't work leading to pure frustration. The final, final level is utter shite as well. The knuckles level in particular is underwater and the timing to get to air bubbles is very tight. The controls are shite and the hit boxes on the bubbles are more suggestion than anything. And then right at the end they suspend air bubbles above a damage floor, everytime you touch a bubble knuckles sinks uncontrollably. It's utter nonsense.
So basically fuck Sonic Adventure 2 and the fans of that game.

I thought this was a new SH game and Konami was going to mess it up like their other half-ass attempts at modern takes of their games. But just found out it's just a crossover for another horror game. Kind of disappointing.

But just found out it's just a crossover for another horror game. Kind of disappointing. After watching the trailer, I'm glad it's just that, since it doesn't really have the Silent Hill atmosphere. It's just rehashing a few popular elements from past games in a shallow way, the way pointless horror movie sequels always do.

It's basically a one monster vs a group of people type multiplayer game.

Now we can argue online about who gets to be the bucket bitch.

The Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Collector's Set arrived this morning and it's absolutely lovely. Nicely boxed and the artbook is substantial and gorgeous. Mostly I bought it for the vinyl though which I'm glad to see includes the obvious favourites (although this soundtrack deserves a more complete release). I'll be giving it a spin later as well as revisiting the game itself of course.

For the last few days, I've been trying to play Darxide for the SEGA 32X. It was the last game released for the add-on in Europe and is pretty interesting for its use of texture-mapped polygons (one of only two games on the 32X to do so IIRC), and I was planning on reviewing it for HG101. However, I gave it another try a little while ago, and I honestly can't stand the game. You're just flying around space shooting at things with basically no information conveyed as to how well you're doing or if you completed your objectives; you have to wait til the mission ends after four minutes to know whether you succeeded or failed. Trying to find objects is a pain due to the small draw distance and things constantly flying off into space, and while there's a radar you can use, it's simultaneously convoluted and over-simplified. It's one of those games where I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing and being continually punished for not getting it, even though it's the game's job on some level to help me get it.
I really need some help trying to get into it, since I know there's more to Darxide than the first mission (which most people play and then give up on for pretty much the same reason I'm struggling with it), because I'm honestly considering just not reviewing the game. Even though I strongly dislike Darxide, it deserves a better coverage from someone who is interested in it and can get to grips with it. If anyone can give some suggestions on how to approach the game, I'd really appreciate it.
...So basically fuck Sonic Adventure 2 and the fans of that game. Why are you cursing out the fans of SA2? It's fine that you absolutely hate the game, but it just seems to be mean-spirited and shitty to also lump its fans into that hatred as well. Fans have nothing to do with any piece of media beyond just liking it.

The European collector's edition is a lot fancier than the US one, so I'm jealous as the US editions seem to be getting progressively worse. I ended up passing on it because I didn't really feel like paying the extra $20 for just an art book. 2's at least came with a sound track. While X's art book was crappy, it did come with a nice looking but nearly unusable Zohar-shaped USB stick. I'm iffy on collector's edition art books in general. The only good one I've ever gotten was with Bravely Second which is retail size and quality and significantly better than some art books I've purchased.
I only had time for about an hour and half of it so far, and it is a good update. I like that the Japanese voices are included as that was the way I played it originally. It's not so much that I don't like the English voices, but it gets annoying to constantly hear the same attack names over and over again. I also fell back into basically playing it first person which either you can't do in the others or I just didn't for whatever reason. One really nice addition is that positional Arts get a little marking when you're in the right place. It's also nice that you get the option of cosmetic "equipment" like X without needing to keep it around unlike X. It's just a shame that there isn't a wider variety of styles.

Yeah, I'm basically done with collectors editions for the most part but I can't resist a good vinyl soundtrack, especially considering Nintendo is terrible at putting out soundtrack releases. I really like the British dub, but I am British so it sounds more comfortable for my ear. I know what you mean about the move names though. I enjoyed it in the original, but I remember in Xenoblade 2 they were spamming the names so much they were all talking at the same time, gave me a headache. The one thing I'm hoping is improved in this is tracking sidequests. Don't suppose you've noticed any difference? I remember a lot of quests and getting confused as to what needed doing, when and how.

I don't think there are any changes to the quest log itself, but I they did add in "routes" to the minimap if there's a specific location you need to go to if the quest is set as Active.
