Tried out some Pac-Man 99. I don't really get the difference between the strategies you can pick and there's no digital manual. Come on man. One thing that I find very bizarre is the DLC section. There's themes based on all kinds of old Namco games, but some aren't mentioned by name. So among the packs named like Custom Theme: Dig Dug and Custom Theme: Xevious, you have packs called Custom Theme: Namco Classic 1 through Namco Classic 5. They're still based on Namco games. Why can't they mention the names of games like Mappy or Metro Cross? As an aside, what are quick and easy games to play on the Mega Drive or SNES? For some reason Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse immediately came to mind.

Magical Quest does seem to be the quintessential easy 16-bit game going by the half-dozen forum threads I checked. I honestly don't know if I'm into it or not, though. I can't articulate why; just that I don't have much interest just glancing at it. I appreciate the suggestion all the same, so thanks.

I’d say SNES Aladdin is even shorter and easier than Magical Quest. And I don’t know if anyone would agree with me but SNES Skyblazer is over with pretty quickly.
For the Mega Drive I think Pocahontas is the easiest I’ve ever played? It’s also very dull for how short it is.

I'd agree with that, Aladdin is a breeze overall.
Edit: Old list I had on my PC (not only SNES and MD):
RPG: Suikoden 1
Adventure: Loom, Snatcher (MCD), Day of the Tentacle (for the most part)
Simulation: SimCity 1-2, Pirates! (PC, 2004 w/ easiest settings)
TBS/SRPG: Shining Force, Heroes of Might and Magic II-III (Easy)
Platformer: Magical Quest 3, of Illusion series (MD & SMS), Do Re Mi Fantasy, Super Mario World, SML3: Wario Land, New SMB DS, Super Mario Land 2, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile PS1, Yoshi’s Island SNES (if not collecting everything), Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Freedom Planet (easy mode)
Platform Adventure/Metroidvania: Wonder Boy in Monster World/Monster World III/Dynastic Hero (JP ver. or PCE CD ver.), CV: Symphony of the Night, Strider (2014, Easy)
Action Adventure/ARPG: Zelda 3 (GBA ver.), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (HD is even easier), Diablo 1-2 (you can play as a party online and give someone a head start with better gear), Soleil/Crusader of Centy
Beat 'em up/Hack 'n Slash: River City Ransom, TMNT: Turtles in Time & Hyperstone Heist, Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle 2-3 (Easy mode) and Streets of Rage Remake PC, Sonic Blast Man II SNES (easy mode)
RTS/RTT (I avoided the more advanced ones here): Kingdom Crusade/The Legend of Prince Valiant GB (tbs hybrid, versus game), North & South NES/AMI (tbs/rts/action hybrid, versus)
Racing: Rock n' Roll Racing, Micro Machines '96
Shoot 'em up (easy mode!): MUSHA and Thunder Force 3, Battle Mania Daiginjou and Trouble Shooter, Panorama Cotton, TwinBee 3: Poko Poko Dai Maou (NES), Gleylancer (homing mode), Super Fantasy Zone, Lords of Thunder (MCD ver.), Star Fox 64 (Easy route)
Puzzle: Kickle Cubicle (NES), Solomon's Club (GB), Goof Troop SNES

Yeah, Aladdin is a snap. Magical Quest is pretty easy but gets a little tough towards the end. Nothing unreasonable but it's not quite "turn off your brain" either.
Turtles in Time is pretty easy, even on hard mode and can be beaten in less than an hour.

As an aside, what are quick and easy games to play on the Mega Drive or SNES? I'm playing Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute, and I'd like to have a short enough game to play on the PC. I can't think of any that aren't genuinely pretty challenging despite their short length (like Kid Klown in Krazy Chase, a pretty cool game with lots of great animation and slapstick that I just can't stick at the moment). Even some adventure games would do the trick, graphic or text adventures especially. SNES - Hook, Joe and Mac, Ultraman Mega Drive - Valis 3, Gunstar Heroes, Mercs, Rambo III,

The Genesis Valis 1 is very easy, though.

The Super Bonk games on SNES/Super Famicom are quick and easy. Also looking for what to play - need to scratch the JRPG itch and so thought I'd pick something from my PS2 backlog. My options are: Kingdom Hearts 2 Shadow Hearts Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Steambot Chronicles Valkyrie Profile 2 Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land Edit: Oh and BoF Dragon Quarter Any thoughts? Thank you for the Bonk recommendations. Been meaning to get into that series in some form, so I might give it a bash! On the RPGs, Kingdom Hearts II is the only one I've played. It leans way harder into the combat than the first game, which is grand since the combat is much more developed with plenty of options to play around with. It also features a load of optional "second quests" from the halfway point where you can return to earlier worlds and fight new enemies/bosses. The only warning I'll give is that the opening section is much slower paced and fairly long. There's a good reason for it being there and I think the game would be much worse if it were absent, but it's worth knowing that going in.
Play anything on that list that isn't Kingdom Hearts 2. It's a really good list of very interesting games, except KH2. I'm playing BoF Dragon Quarter and after a slow opening it's pretty amazing.

retr0gamer This has been on my mind for a while, but can I ask what your deal is with Kingdom Hearts? I'm sorry if this ends up sounding worse than I mean it to be, but whenever someone mentions the series, you pop up to say that it's rubbish and should be ignored at all times without really going into detail. And I'm really curious to know why you're so dismissive towards it. I'm not asking you to justify yourself - opinions are opinions and it's grand if you don't like Kingdom Hearts. I just wanna know what your thoughts are on it.

MW4 remake still looks cheap compared to the original, but will probably play it. I'm more curious about gameplay changes, it seems there aren't any and that's where it would stand to gain from more non-linearity, more in-depth equipment mechanics, a map system, the blocking style used in other MW games and some other stuff.

DDS is the only one I really remember, and it is pretty good. I'm assuming you mean the first part since there are two. It's also an example of Atlus throwing everything MegaTen related under SMT brand outside of Japan (where it's DDS: Avatar Tuner) despite it being a fairly standard jRPG in gameplay.

Thanks for the answers guys. They all seemed very different so I was struggling with choice paralysis. I'm going to go with Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter since retr0gamer praised it so highly. On Digital Devil Saga - yeah, I only have the first entry. I'm not sure how connected the two are but I didn't see any point picking up the second game without playing the first one. Apollo Chungus - just don't mention Legend of Dragoon. The Kingdom Hearts dismissiveness can comparatively be considered complimentary.

Realistically, maybe Retsu? Out of the SF1 characters that have never been playable, he seems to have the most real connection to various backstory bits. I always assumed he was Makoto's teacher, because her stage in SF III Third Strike is an obvious nod to his SF1 stage. What other connections are you referring to? And going through the SFV characer list makes me wonder how neither Makoto nor Elena, two of the best characters in the series, aren't in the game yet.
As for interesting SF1 characters that haven't reappeared yet, how about Joe... I mean Geki? It's strongly suggested he's got ties to Ibuki: One of her clan members in SF III NG looks very similar (officially it's not him, I know, but come on) and like with the Makoto/Retsu situation, her Third Strike stage is a remake of SF1's Geki stage. Also, since he's essentially a proto-Balrog/Vega ("Claw"), it shouldn't be too hard to make up a backstory that connects those two.

Makoto is based on Retsu, but isn't connected otherwise. Retsu is Gouken's teacher friend*, and is connected to Dhalsim and Oro in some way. He was supposed to be playable in Capcom Fighting Evolution but the SF1 characters got cut. Problem with Geki is that he's dead, and there's already a non-playable successor Geki. * I mean Goutetsu is Gouken's master, but Retsu was Goutetsu's assistant. The brief official character profile mentions that they're friends.
