Who misses the old days of Activision? I do. Anything pre Call of Duty.

Not to mention that this is being reported by Bloomberg, as in Michael Bloomberg's media company. One could almost laugh at the irony, if it wasn't so sad overall.
Frankly, the only ethical way of purchasing games that I see these days is directly buying from small indie devs (while hoping that those are decent human beings). I too find it unsurprising to find such behaviour in companies built around the principle of exploitation.

Who misses the old days of Activision? I do. Anything pre Call of Duty. The "good" Activision died when Jim Levy was forced out of the company all the way back in 1986! Bobby Kotick reanimated the corpse in 1990, and he's been in charge since then. Aside from fans of the 2600 and some 8-bit computers, the Activision people liked is the same as the company people hate. They always been looking for a buck and any craft their games ever had was purely incidental.

I keep wondering why Nintendo keep releasing more lesser known games then for this service. Not that I'm complaining. Getting these games makes it not having to search and buy it at big prices. I got the service just for some of the games like Demon's Crest and Joe and Mac 2. But I wonder what will happen once Nintendo stop this service in the future. I'm hoping that they'll allow us to keep the games. Looking at the games I notice that the number of games seem to come from not many different publishers. Jeleco and Natsume are two. Does Nintendo chooses to make a deal with a handful of game companies or will they branch out. I'd like to see something like Terranigma show up in the near future sense it was not released in North America.

Bummer. The laptop I've used for years is broke. My dad looked at it and said I need a new one (and just upgraded it from Window 8 to Windows 10.) He ordered one and might get it soon. Not sure what the specs are as I forgot what my dad said. Lots of technical mumbo-jombo. I've been looking into upgrading my PC for a while and haven't gotten to doing it yet. This laptop may not be the one system I'm looking for as a replacement for the PC. Though I ask my dad to find something more up to date for the laptop. He found one for over 400 or 500 dallors just not sure if that is a top of the line laptop. Like to be able to play some game that don't run right on my PC like the original Dead Rising and the Rise of the Triad remake. (From this you can probably see my PC is not top of the line. It can run Dead Rising but it runs in slow motion and it can't handle all the stuff that goes on in ROTT.) Should my dad have gotten a laptop that's more expensive to satisfy my PC gaming needs?

Quite simply, releasing through this method doesn't make publishers the money they seek for their old software. Publishers have found that releasing their back catalogue on their own terms enables them to promote the software in a way that can maximise profits. Of course Square Enix hasn't shown an interest in rereleasing the Quintet games on their own as of yet, however, through doing so on Nintendo's service they forego the ability to release the software at a later point should they decide to do so. Generally speaking, the Virtual Console didn't bring companies the money they anticipated, and with Nintendo limiting their returns through their pricing structure (from which Nintendo took a cut of course) didn't have the ability to influence the profitability of this software.

Don't be expecting to run new games on it but if you are lucky and got one with a decent APU then you Might be able to play some older games or newer ones at lower specs.

A gaming laptop is more in the $1500 and up range so it's definitely low end with integrated graphics. If you're lucky and ended up with one that has an Intel Iris Xe, performance is supposed to decent maybe even midrange. If you're unlucky and got one with with Intel UHD, that's basically just enough to run a 4K monitor for normal non-gaming tasks. The problem is the ones with Iris seem to start around $650 unless he found one on sale. That's the price for a new one direct from the company. I wouldn't really trust Amazon for this type of thing, but there's some cheaper ones in that price range there. Another option is a manufacturer refurbished laptop which is always a very limited selection. However, Dell has this refurbished Inspiron 15 for $450 so nothing too fancy, but the refurb discount gets you quite a bit more power for the same price.

I have a 700€ laptop from 2018 and it can barely do any 4k things. Movies are fine, but even programs like iTunes stutter a bit, and 1993 DOOM is already unplayable in it. It's somewhat impressive at, say, Sonic Generations (yes that's an old game), but even then it won't even do Spelunky 2 in 1080p without slowdown. It's not really meant for gaming, but somewhat compatitable, and it was already a pretty cheap laptop for what I minimally wanted from it.
RE: NSO/Virtual Console. Back in the Wii days a lot of companies weren't that active in re-releasing their old stuff as well. It's clear that what we're getting now is just the leftovers of whatever companies are too small or don't care enough about putting out (and profiting more from) their own compilations. Most of the 'bigger' companies only seem to be putting on those games they don't care enough about to rerelease on their own. This is also why I can't really lament the loss of VC too much, because it would just be Nintendo's stuff (okay, sure it would be nice to have, say, N64 games on NSW), and a bunch of random games. It just feels kinda lame without the Megamans and Castlevanias and whatnot on there.
As an aside, I randomly had the Olympic games opening ceremony on in the background on the TV, and I suddenly hear the Dragon Quest main theme while the country/flag parade starts up. Turns out they're doing a video game theme medley during it. So far I've recognized DQ, FF, MonHun and Sonic. Sounds pretty epic honestly.

Every time they announce new NSO games I always get a laugh out of the comments on the Youtube videos. "Where's Mega Man X3?" "Where's CHRONO TRIGGER!!!" They're on their own compilations and releases that people will money actually pay for dude...
Squeenix could throw Chrono Trigger on the Switch, add the PS1 and DS enhancements, call it the "Definitive Anniversary Edition" and charge 40 bucks for it. They'd sell tons.
As someone who absorbed a ton of the NES and SNES library through renting games every weekend, I have a lot of affection for the mid-level "rentalcore" titles they put on here. You bet your ass I played The Peace Keepers and Operation Logic Bomb!
That being said, I wish they'd throw some N64 games on there. I feel like we're at peak N64 nostalgia at the moment and it would generate some buzz for the service.

It is a little strange that Square Enix has not done anything with Chrono Trigger (apart from those ports years ago). When even something like Seiken Densetsu 3 gets a complete current gen remake you’d be forgiven for thinking Chrono Trigger could poooooossibly be next? I’m thinking a remake with graphics that look like the Toriyama artwork pretty much.
Square Enix has also been remastering PS1 games lately and if Saga Frontier and Legend of Mana are good enough to bring back, I imagine Chrono Cross must’ve also been considered at some point (but ultimately not deemed worth it, I guess? Or perhaos Chrono Cross has graphics that wouldn’t lend themselves very well for a remaster...)

Scramble Formation was one I hadn't looked at, thanks. WEC Le Mans is on there but Legendary Wings I had put in the "b-tier" folder.

Got my new laptop today. Glad to be able to search the internet on my lap rather then from a pc monitor. Trying downloading different games to see what works. One old game that I couldn't play on my old laptop or PC was Bad Mojo and now I can.
