Finished Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninjas. Always had a soft spot for this game. I found the premise of Caveman Ninjas amusing and loved the humour in the big goofy sprites. There's some really nice sprite work and animation in the game as well. I kind of realise now the game is quite limited but for a arcade quarter muncher it's perfectly judged. It controls quite well and it's surprisingly fair for a arcade game.

Three years ago, I made a thread on games that I felt were better in their original Arcade version, and Joe & Mac was on my list.

Speaking of Joe & Mac it looks like a remake just came out. Looks kind of cheap to me. In the trailer, Mac has the exact same hair as Joe, except it's blue. He's supposed to have a different hairstyle. It's the sort of thing you'll be able to buy off the eshop for 2 dollars six months from now.

It's made by the same people that made the Toki Remake which I really liked.
Didn't even realise a remake was on the way. Was spending time building up a new mame collection and gave it a go!

There is a door out? Where? Been looking for that for ages. I should be so lucky... Guess until then I'll have to keep posting into the void.
...
On Joe and Mac: I had the DOS version back then, which was quite good. Fun game. And the remake looks okay, but no match for the original's pixel art. The Mr Nutz guys certainly cut some corners (more keyframe animation, less detailed characters) compared to the rather gorgeous Toki remake. Though that one took ages to get released, so maybe this time they prioritized just getting it done.
edit: Here's the new Mario vs Sonic vs Star Wars vs Ghost Busters vs Candy Crush reboot trailer:
It's epic!

That was a tough quiz! If you can edit it, I'd suggest always including the number of selections since it's a little ambiguous sometimes.

Beat master of darkness. Not a bad Castlevania clone. It's also one of the only blatant Castlevania clones I can think of right down to how the stairs work.

Things in videogames that are incredible but nobody talks about #128:
The vandal hearts 2 box art.

Started playing Scott Pilgrim a while ago. I can't say I'm enjoying it much..? Paul Robertson's pixel art is very impressive, certainly, and I suspect it's a lot more enjoyable with more players. And it seems some of the moves that open up as you go up in levels (which fortunately seems to happen rather quickly) add some variety. But there just doesn't seem to be any way to avoid getting the crap kicked out of you. And I think it's downright stupid that there's apparently no way to tell in advance what an item is supposed to do for you before you buy it. It feels like another one of those games where it's just too easy to completely play it the wrong way without realizing it.

It feels like another one of those games where it's just too easy to completely play it the wrong way without realizing it. The not knowing what the items do thing is a reference to river city ransom. Whether it's a good design decision to replicate what is probably a flaw due to system limitations is a different story. I'm kind of with you on how you feel about the game. I think the buzz about the game at the time was because it was on that first wave of games that harked back to NES classics. It was neat at the time to play a game filled with NES nostalgia but since then it's become over played and we have also had much better games in the genre with the likes of SoR4 and shredders revenge which I believe shares a lot of the same development staff as Scott pilgrim.
